You can ask, doesn’t mean they will. Our group has had people who took one for the team. Talk to your management.
Exactly!! I asked them three years ago about voluntary layoffs. My boss told me the company would never entertain such an idea . When half of my department was let go/offshored to India, it just blew my mind that they don't ask for volunteers. I am more than willing to volunteer to be laid off, with a package of course. I don't understand why the company does not offer this. I'm 31, no kids, I have minimal Financial Burdens. I would welcome the lay off & time to take time off, travel, and regroup before making my next move professionally. I think it's crazy that BNYM does not explore voluntary layoffs. I would much rather they let me go and spare my co-workers who have families and cannot afford to be laid off.
