What is an independent Contributor?

Some Managers/ supervisors in our office have been rebranded as “Independent Contributors”. Their people have been taken away and they will now continue doing their job, but not manage people anymore. Is this happening elsewhere and is this a sign jobs will be eliminated?

@XMLV08T-lnh-right on. Still shocked people are reacting surprised at what is happening. There were "managers" who manged one or two people and manager bonused for that. I say good for them but the jig is up regrettably. My take is MANY "managers" will be relegated to doing associate work=> they will be soon replaced by associates for half pay because it will make business sense. So if you were a "manager" between levels 6 and 10 I would worry.

When I arrive (before scheduled time) each morning I keep my coat on for a few in case it’s “MyTime.” For the love of humanity, it’s an awful, awful feeling. I feel sorry for some now former BNYMellon people who actually aren’t even good people! The everyday behavior of “leaders” and basic level staff can be.....purely...”toxic.” And I use that term on the rarest occasions. But this is a disgusting mess of an organization

They're rebranding these managers & allowing them to remain employed whilst they have no idea how to perform the actual activities of the job itself, but letting go people who have been doing the work on a day-to-day basis. Don't help these crooked managers. Time they fend for themselves and either figure out how to complete the everyday responsibilities of the job or get let go. They are now your competition & they have friends in management. The advantage you have is that you know how to do the job and hopefully they receive customer complaints when work is not being processed correctly or timely. Dog eat Dog.

Several hundred managers were demoted across all lines of business as the initial step of a cost cutting measure. During this upcoming summer there will be a voluntary market correction offered to these employees to adjust down their managers salary back down to individual contributors. If they do not accept they will be offered the standard severage package.

Yes it’s our new reality. BNY announced reduction of management levels to seven. “Extra” managers must be rebranded or let go.

People: attend Charlie’s town halls! He is very clear about where the company is going. Less life/work balance, less management, more work. Lean, efficient. (Painful?) Watch the town halls, he explains it all.
