“Leadership” nowadays one of the most celebrated term associated with every high position in companies. Sitting in big meeting rooms, addressing group of helpless employees, sending mailers on ethics, values etc can not be termed as leadership. And the strange part is that, these people are self proclaimed leaders with least regard to their acceptance by employees at lower rung. Now you tell us, can there be leader without followers? Its simple “Leaders need some one to lead”. Isn’t it?

Okay lets do a quick reality check and you decide, how many of you or your colleagues would still follow your leaders once they move or are moved from their official positions, trust us, we conducted survey and the answer from 99% of employees was big “No” i.e none would follow. Now let us ask you the same question in different way, just recollect “How many of you still consider your Ex boss/Leader as your role model to emulate”. Think on these aspects and Judge yourself.

So its crystal clear, leadership is more of acceptance of any individual’s intrinsic qualities by a group of people, rather then forced or commanded one. Of course organizations are always empowered to create futile multilayer structure decorated with people of rich experience but they could not be called leaders. And the irony is that, here one leader anoints another leader and together they lavish all luxuries while we people at lower rung hardly meet our daily life requirements.

Now you decide, Is this Leadership? Of course all these decorated people are part of management but certainly not leaders."

I worked there for five years. After seeing what I saw on the inside I would never recommend anyone investing their money in BNY Mellon.
