Wireless and Directv discount

Does anyone know how long one gets discounted rates on wireless service and /or DirecTV after last day with the company? Trying to figure out if I need to plan on having all that shut off or changed to different provider in advance of my last day with company, or if any of those discounts will continue for a short period after the last day with the company. I'm not a 'rule of 75' employee, so there are no retirement considerations here. I plan to ask my assigned HR resource this as well, just they're not real timely with responses to emails.

The retiree discount for DirecTV is horrible only 20%, I went from paying $10.70 per month (active employee disvount) to $127.99 per month 3 mos later (retiree disvount). Had to make arrangements to cut the chord, could not afford it on my fixed income. They did not even try to retain me or try to move me to a lower cost package. They behaved like they wanted to shed customers. Strange feeling.

The discounts are removed on your next months billing. It happened to me when I left last year.

Has anyone from The January lay-off class received their severance checks yet?

Don’t be surprised, the wireless discount is quick to roll off. In my case it was off in less than a month. The dtv discount was slower to roll off, about 3 months.

Best of luck.

Remember they invoice Direct TV you o in advance and you pay for that even if you cut it off on day 2. Another way they screw the customer

I cancelled my service about 3 weeks before being surplused and retiring. Good thing I did because it took over a month after that to get the DTV billing straightened out. I was told different things about how to return the DTV boxes and all were wrong. I finally had to escalate and was then informed by a US group that I was to take the equipment into a local UPS store and they would pack up/ship at no expense to me. In the meantime, I kept getting billed for the equipment until it was finally shipped out. The "retiree discount" is only 20 percent and if I wanted the mid-level package, it would come out to $113.00 after retiree discount not counting all the additional fees. Thanks but no thanks.

Once the DTV employee discount ends, you get slammed into the Sunday Ticket sports package and your monthly billing jumps to $120 a month. That is when I left and went back to Comcast. They were already my ISP and adding TV only added $30 to my tab.

I was surplused in April 2016. 3 months later my Direct TV bill went from $10.00 to $125.00 with no warning whatsoever. I dropped the DTV and went to You Tube TV for $30.00. Start checking other services and check your bill from T carefully every month.

I know I’ll be leaving DTV. Retirement discount is only 20% and I lose the signal all the time living in FL. And I’ll bet T-Mobile will be cheaper than 30% off T.

The company doesn't realize that as they surplus thousands of employees each quarter, many of them are taking their wireless, TV and internet business elsewhere which is affecting T's bottom line. Oh and former employees are also telling friends, family and neighbors to do the same thing. I know I did as a former T employee and now the competition is having much better results/net adds.

I can speak to the DTV discount removal - they handle it real classy just like the whole surplus process. After being surplussed I was expecting a notification that my bill for DTV would be going up, here is your new rate, something. What happened was I received no notification at all ...they just disconnected my account one random day and my DTV quit working. Professional all the way!! No wonder they could never answer the question about DTV discounts in the surplus meetings.

I moved my ERP lines to prepaid, cheaper than with the employee discount too.... Cancelling directv in the next few days as well.

I was surplussed last October and can say HR is quick to remove your employee discount as they were to surplus you. Wireless was rather quick, about a few weeks or so. I didn't have any AT&T TV service (I cancelled DTV and DTV Now long before I was surplussed) so I can't speak to that. I did have internet and the discount lasted a few months because I was in a "promotion" period but let me tell you that after the internet discount was removed, my bill more than doubled. I was also now paying a monthly rental fee for the wireless router/modem. Looking into TMUS for wireless and the cable guys for internet. Rates seem to be better than T with no contracts or equipment rental fees.

I read where it can take up to 3 months. Not sure how you can possibly time it just right.
