Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

People quitting even before bonuses

We just had two people accept other offers even before they got their bonuses. You know it’s bad when they’re so desperate to get another job they leave their bonus behind. And they were both good people.

Oh don't worry. HR and Comms are just doing it to keep their jobs while they are working just as hard on finding a job elsewhere. HR is not responsible for all the decisions that have been made in the last ten years. They are in the same position as everyone else who needs to pay their bills. They were not responsible for the hedging strategy, for ruining a really strong balance sheet, for the ridiculous lease costs etc etc. Let's focus on the real issue. Get your resumes ready people - other companies are hiring.

Industry leader during RE turn at the helm but he started the decline and BF continued the bad decisions. Current industry leader.... that's just the kool-aid talking.

An industry leader maybe 10 years ago. Where have you been in the last decade?! And what kind of skills do you have that can only be used in retail? If so, you are way overpaid and they should get rid of you!

Industry leader in what? Total number of layoffs per year? Top ten worst places to work? Best designed cubicle / incognito torture device? Biggest debt load in industry? Most unused real estate space / company? Best hedging program ever? Most white male VPs?

Minor point of order on this thread. Cenovus would be way better off without all of HR, not just ex HR people. It’s like someone telling you they’re from the govt and here to help. Same cold chill goes up your spine when someone from HR comes around. There to serve the VP and not you.

Yah, nice try. not working for HR or mgmt...but tell me, how DO I check the systems and see how many people have left in the last few months voluntarily and post it here? You sound like someone from HR that got shown the door because the average employee doesn't have access to that sh--. Too bad for you, but Cenovus is obviously a better with out you. And so are all the rest of us that still have a job. Good luck going forward. You will likely need it. and nope, I'm not one of the elites and someone guessed...but you know what I am? I'm someone that is glad I work for Cenovus. I'm proud of my company for being a leader in the industry. There's no way I want to be unemployed right now. I made choices earlier on in my life that mean I can't retire early and I'm totally ok with that. So yah, I'm here to stay as long as I can....this is way frickin better than working retail!!!

I don’t think that’s fair at all people. You have no proof anyone is hiring any relatives so making baseless claims doesn’t help anyone.

With people leaving it gives them more room to hire their kids on full time. Wait that’s not fair, sorry about that. I’m sure none of our mgmt would hire relatives while people are being laid off. Right?

@X9v2Ccs-1rwf <--- one of the 'elites' at CVE. Pro company, pro management.. probably bends over daily to please the boss and sh1ts on everyone else.

I’m sure you’re from HR or mgmt why don’t you check the systems and see how many people have left in the last few months voluntarily and post it here? You would know where they’ve left from so let’s call your bluff. Take a look.

so. 'we' just had two good people accept offers elsewhere. so who's fault is that? did you talk to them? do you know why? or are you just a sh-- disturber? just trying to understand. if they left 'you' well then perhaps you should have seen that was coming...just asking. this 'blame everything on your boss/parents/company" stuff is not changing anything.

Not surprising at all. There will always be jobs for competent people and those who know it and have great skills and are brave to give it a try will be fine. Wish more people would realize it. The longer you stay there, the less marketable and confident you become.

CVE does not deserve good employees! What groups did they leave from?
