The "official" word on the outage

So the official word on the outage came out yesterday after they finally figured out what to say. BAD NETWORK MANAGEMENT CARD in Denver Colorado Central Office generating frames across the network. Yeah.

Surprising, it doesn't sound like they have named some poor field ops tech as a scapegoat on this.

Now....you have to ask yourself, how can one network management card bring down an entire network with multiple nodes, redundancy and routes? Hmmmmm.

There are techs in the field who think they (the company) purposely caused the outage as a ploy to help get out ofnthe copper business by blowing customer faith in our ability to provide relaible service.

Not sure I agree with this since their fiber customers mean so much to them and they took a bigger overall hit than anyone riding copper.

It is very possible for a card to bring down a whole network. Last Nov, one of the servers that my company used overheated in TX. That server contained 200 programs and data bases for us. It took a week for all of it to come back online. Over 20,000 employees sitting around and waiting and getting paid.
