Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Unused vacation

Any chance somebody here can tell me if unused vacation is paid if you decide to quit on your own?

I know it used to be the case, but with all the changes that have been implemented at Xerox lately - and none for the better - I wouldn't be surprised if that has been somehow discontinued as well.

They will take taxes (Fed, Social Security, Medicare, and State) out of your unused vacation pay. They will do the same for your RIF_Lump sum.

I can confirm. I left voluntarily on 11/30. I calculated unused vacation time of 8 days, told my manager, and received a check (no taxes withheld) in about a week.

In the past, Xerox paid you for earned unused vacation regardless of type of separation. Not sure if they will continue under current regime.

When I have processed employee exit packages either for voluntary or involuntary separation your manager puts down the number of used vacation days. HR uses this to calculate number of unused days you will be paid in either case

Last I knew you earned vacation quarterly. If you get 4 weeks, then the first day of each quarter you earn a week. So right now you have a week of vacation. If you left on April 1st, you'd have 2. If you left then and had used no vacation, xerox would add in 2 weeks of pay to your paycheck.

At least that's the way it works in my area, and I know this to be the case recently when I've had people leave. It may vary based on organization. Or it may have changed in the past few months, but I don't think so.
