Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

7 more VPs

7 more VPs. Really? This will for sure turn the company around. Alpo, no sh-- the optics don't look good. We'll played, drive moral low enough and attrition will take care of the G&A costs.

Angry former employees.....you mean the ones that are continually tossed out the doors to make room for VP promotions and management bonuses?

Dude, I think most the posts are from current employees who are sick of the double standard thrown around by mgmt. we keep our bonuses , we get promotions, and base it all on some mysterious survey they use to justify their moves. Just seems to always go their way. Oh yes; and HR s---s! and cubicles s---!

Your mom should also have told you to not sh-- where you eat. Continually pissing off people tends to wreck performance and thus productivity.

It’s so awesome to see a bunch of angry former employees continue to post. There is a saying my mother told me once. If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all. Just because you hate your life doesn’t mean you have to be a jackass and post ideas that have no basis. Move on and stop assuming g everyone in the world is as negative as you.

I think Z has done a great job. Strong voice for the industry and he did phenomenal job on the Daily Show.

Conoco just promoted 2 female executives. It's too bad that cenovus is only interested in copying the bad ideas from other companies.

I second that thought as well. The only consultants that seem to succeed are those that agree with the project leader even though the ideas put forth are ridiculous to us folks who deal with the execution and after math.

The consultants usually don't care and that's understandable. Big chq for them just to provide support to the ignorant project leader so s/he can flow it up another 20 lvls to agree with the clt. Big bonus for project success and screw the rest!

Cve arrogance will be its undoing. I watched as we brought in someone from the outside to work with our team. Experienced, practical, pragmatic with really useful approach and ideas that made sense. She was excellent to work with and for and they shut her down all the time. They wouldn’t even hear her out because ‘they knew better’ - ha. The boys club beat her down daily. These are the same twits who have been here their entire careers and know nothing. Their decisions are what got us here!

Last month our id--t leadership let her go - and now we have leaders who have know idea what they’re doing. But hey, everyone knows at cve it’s not ‘surround yourself with the best and let them do their jobs’. It’s more like ‘keep the yes men around cause they make me feel really really smart’. Right Big Z?

@2jwo @2yjg CVE employee here. Sometimes when we're young and confident, we're id--ts and insensitive pricks. Particularly when there's not yet many personal commitments, eg: mortgage, bills, spouse, children, etc... to lock us into the real word. If I'm honest, I'd have to say I've been there myself.

Thankfully, we (mostly) grow up. And I think you'll find the majority of us at CVE who have a decade or two in the industry have grown up a bit, and can empathize with anyone who has had to go through lay-offs (from any company).

Not apologizing on behalf of the offenders, but thought a comment was warranted.

Cenovus employees were some of the most - if not the most - arrogant in the industry when times were good. Knocking them down a few pegs isn't a bad thing.

7 more VP’s will definitely improve the place. Wouldn’t want those overpaid ELT lackeys and turd polishers to leave and go somewhere else now would we?

How the mighty have fallen. I worked in the Bow for Encana back in 2013 when we went through our first round of layoffs. We knew it was coming and so did most of the city/industry due to media coverage. We heard rumours that it was Tuesday where Encana did their layoffs. Then we got the e-mails... Definitely Tuesday. I will forever remember boarding an elevator in the first bank to take us to the 24th Skygarden then hopping on another elevator to our Encana floor. On that day, in that first elevator there were two Cenovus employees who were openly joking about being laid off and smirking about how it's good they have a job to go back to. My attitude was soured towards Cenovus after that and I survived the layoff(s). No one said anything to them. I often wonder what happened to those two men who worked for Cenovus? Were they canned in the first round of CVE layoffs that happened a year or two later and are now stacking fruit at a Safeway where they belong? Or are they still toiling around depressed and bitter at Cenovus unsure about their personal and professional lives? They were young-ish so I assume they have young families, mortgage(s), car loans, etc. Either way, must be tough! Keep your chin up, Cenovus kids! Be humble.

Hi there,

Long time reader first time poster. If I may make a suggestion to the mgmt who obviously read this site. There is a culture problem at CVE, it’s a fact. What you are doing is not working, it’s a fact. Why not strike a group or a few groups of average employees chosen at random, so you don’t end up with the usual crew of volunteers, to provide insight, trouble shoot the morale issues, and maybe come up with suggestions. Maybe use a third party so they feel safe giving honest feedback. It’s worth a try as whatever you’re doing, it’s not working. Truly meant as some heart felt honest feedback. I want Cenovus to succeed, even the meanest people on here probably want to feel good again about working there. What can it hurt? And now I will go back to being a non posting person.
