Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How are we even hiring people?

I'm just wondering how are we able to hire anybody anymore. Do people not check the company out before they join it? Why would anybody accept a job if they knew that layoffs here are accepted as an everyday thing?

I know I wouldn't give a job offer from here a second thought these days. I'm thinking that if it isn't already, our ability to hire people will be severely crippled by the current situation in the company very, very soon.

these folks from AWS, and MS came in, and built a cloud infra platform from scratch in couple of years., Hats off to them., I know it is lagging in lot of places and not a revenue generator yet, but it is something second tier people from AWS, or MS may not have done. So they deserve a credit.

that is the idea of change. Larry is willing to invest in r&d, bring in top expensive engineers.

Oracle has been attempting to change for the better for years and years. Very small changes, very large number of corrupt employees and managers. It's not going to happen, no matter how much you might want to think that it will. Each change is a drop in the bucket and the guys at the top are too afraid of triggering WARN notices to do anything big. That's what's really needed. It's not going to happen.

"I don't believe it. AWS leftovers and posers. Maybe you're one of them."

did you lose your job at oracle or on verge of losing? you have a sore touch...I am an old timer here, and seen people, industry leaders, subject experts, been brought in to lead critical positions in last couple of years. Oracle is changing for better, at least attempting to do so.

better appreciate people for the potential they have, and learn from their path. No point trying to put them down with such comments.

Low 6 figures out of the gate does not fit in with the new comp model. Instead of hiring engineers from Stanford and MIT, they can hire engineers from their new high school or better yet, let them work on projects for grades so they can graduate.

"I seem to recall that at the SCA campus tech newbies were hired from a short list of schools"

To clarify: these were not "class of" hires with degrees in underwater basket weaving. These were new grad hires with CS and Engineering degrees from places like Stanford and not San Jose State. They were paid low six figures right out of the gate. I don't know if that is still happening in SCA, but given what has happened there I kind of doubt there is any hiring there these days.

The whole class-of program is a fiasco. Hiring grads with a poli-sci degree to support technology products with no training. Most don't even know what they will be doing until they are assigned and there is little to no skill-matching. Too many ODs chasing tiny compliance deals and pissing off customers with their non-stop calls and getting in the way of larger opportunities. No product skills, no sales skills, no industry knowledge makes for a bad customer experience. But they come cheap.

in last 2-3 years, seen amazing talent coming into Oracle. Best of people, subject experts.

lot of hiring is happening in US, in HQs.

they are trying to hire best people, and fire not so useful people sitting at Oracle for number of years.

The only people I've seen hired are people in India. It's a four for the price of one sale there.

MH actually likes Baylor because he went there. He wouldn't do that to those poor students. Better to stick it to the enemy schools.

Not still the case. That was several years ago when the class of program started. No one stays over a year. Few make it past 6 months . It’s a call center job with no actual training . Any good cloud solution consultant trainees are all gone ...by 2017 the colleges all stopped hyping the oracle jobs NC it’s basically a call center job w micro management. UT In AUSTIN Doesn’t even recommend oracle anymore. Why didn’t Hurd put his call center in WACO @ Baylor. Lots of lemmings in that town who’d love a call center job and oracle could pay even less money.

I seem to recall that at the SCA campus tech newbies were hired from a short list of schools and would start with six figure salaries. I have no idea if that is still the case.

Oracle is willing to hire millennials for 25% what experienced people make. Millennials are willing to work temporarily to get experience. After 1-2 years they will move on to greener pastures and more pay. The cycle will repeat.

The bottom of the talent pool barrel need jobs too. So, if you’re looking for the best & brightest, breeze past oracle. They’re not working there.

The C-suite are geniuses at feathering the 30% insider ownership's nests while seemingly not devoting any brain cycles to actually making Oracle great again. MOGA!

I think they are having apartments and restaurants in Austin so they hire lower cost new grads then collect rent and foid money from the new hires? Great real estate investment. Somebody will get those buildings later on.

It's the IBM model -- hire them out of school with promises of how awesome things are, giving them a cool title and pay them a technology wage (on average much higher than what their graduating friends will get). Then plan to replace them in 1-3 years once they leave for a better company.

For a graduate, it's a decent first job and Oracle is focused on laying off seasoned/more expensive workers. Not that I'd recommend Oracle, but it can be a stepping stone job for some.

Isn’t hiring basically down to new college graduates from second and third tier schools? And even then it’s not their top graduates but kids who can’t find other jobs?
