Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Work from Home email

What's with the timing of the WFH email? Look around Tempe/Golden Valley even Morristown and you see people aren't coming in. Is this another set up to walk more people out the door?

@5rqp Nice catch that the analyst asked about normal RIF levels. Analysts are getting smarter and reviewing social media and boards, like TheLayoff and Glassdoor, for more information about the real workings of major companies. What the analysts should realize is that the cost reduction (RIFs) is exiting experienced, valuable employees at a time when there aren't enough workers to fill jobs, and that these experienced, knowledgable ex-employees can and will go to a competitor giving them an advantage. You can't cut your way to growth.

Yes when they concolidate sites or downsize, transitions does bucket folks at the site per age and years at Honeyhell.

They have what they call a sweet spot and over 40 yo + and less that 15 years is less desirable. I have a photo from a white board.

The same thing happened to SPS Marketing. The had to move to SPS HQ in Fort Mill or be RIFd. Morris Plains was not even an option. And it also happened to Corp IT Sentience team. It was move to Atlanta or be RIFd even for the people in Morris Plains. HON calls it the HUB Strategy. They will roll it out group by group slowly to RIF in small batches so they do not have to report it to the government or SEC or on earnings calls. However the last earnings call one analyst finally started to catch on. He asked once all the spinoffs "stranded costs RIFs" were done in 2019, what will the "normal RIF" rate be..... Darius danced around and said he couldn't answer. Well it's been in average about 6-10% every year I have been here for over 10 years. So probably at least 6%

@4msm Now leadership is telling employees who work at a site belonging to a different business (for example an Aero employee working at a SPS site) to either relocate to one of their own business's sites or lose their jobs. It's been happening quietly in Aero for about six months, and in other groups (like Corporate) for about two years. I heard it was the grand idea of an HR brain trust.

When this policy first came out they pulled badge records from the security system for the doors. Then people got a call from their manager sometimes accompanied by HR and told to start working in the office Some were offered RIF packages, some quit. I haven't heard of that happening now again

I think it's for finding people they can put in elbow for performance reviews for poor on-site collaboration

1iim. — If what you say about “white male over 50” versus “under 35” is true AND provable, that would clearly be age discrimination.

This was not a "relaxing" of the policy. We were told to tell people in our TAM calls they need to be working in the office everyday all the time. And the email clearly states you need to request approval to stay home for the special and rare occasion from your boss and HR. They will be running door badge records again like when this first came out. This was the warning shot. I have traveled for business to Tempe where I know a lot of people and for the weeks I was there tons of people I know never came in and there were in the Skype calls and were not traveling. And at my own office I know people who have not been in the office for months and are not in sales or field support. The bottom line is they enforce the rule on those they want to dispose of. If you are a white male over 50 you better be in the office every day! If you are under 35 you have nothing to worry about

I think they are finally loosening the policy somewhat. In fact, already got approval to WFH for a few weeks to care for a family member. Step in the right direction and glad for it. @OP-How exactly do you know that folks are not coming in at all three sites Tempe, Golden Valley, and even Morristown?

Seems more like backpedaling to me. I think they're changing their tone so that the few people they actually need to keep around are safe and don't have to follow the mo--nic WFH policy.
