Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

No layoffs after all?

People were saying we'd be seeing more layoffs this week, but it's already Wednesday and from what I can see nothing is happening.

Was this another false alarm, considering that Tuesday is usually the day for layoffs?

Or am I getting excited too soon and we can expect to see something happen tomorrow?

At this point, I think a lot of people are hoping to get RIF'd. It's just isn't getting any better. It's continued to go down since 2008.

AIG has become such a depressing place to work. There is no new business coming in, old business is not being renewed, good employees are being laid off and new senior executives are being brought in and overpaid on a regular basis. How is this a recipe for success? I am hoping to be part of a RIF in the near future.

Good luck to @VertzpW-3vug. A lot of the lay offs do not make sense. AIG is a very complex company. very difficult to maneuver. We will fumble through it and make a lot of mistakes. Customers are already concerned. Underwriters appear to have given up. No new business. Communication s---s. The posted threads are the only way some of us hear about impacted departments.

I was part of a RIF on Tuesday in Claims Ops. Long term management employee running multiple high performing teams. The person that inherited my responsibilities has no experience. I wish everyone the best. I am saddened by what has happened to this once great company.

There was a lot of Claims Adjusters through out the country let go this week. There are still going to be more RIF's into 1st qtr 2019. It's still going to hit all groups. They are also looking at what Insured's are renewing and new business. If that continues to decrease, there will be more Claims Adjusters and Managers gone. U/W hands are a little tied because they have to stick to strict guidelines. Mean while they are still hiring Senior Management. It doesn't make sense to RIF senior management and pay them their large severance and then go hire new Senior Management. What are they hiring them for? they hired a consulting firm to do the RIF's, what ideas or these new folks bringing in? I can only think more expenses

Yes today and tomorrow Claims is going to get hit. Our AVP is coming in today with HO and all Managers and Staff are scheduled to be in today or tomorrow. The AVP hasn't been in the office since the travel restriction was put in place

Every day there are layoffs. Don’t spread false news. Just don’t.

Supposedly they are going to teach other Underwriters how to do Kidnap and Ransom...shouldn’t that have happened BEFORE they laid off the entire unit? Supposedly WC will take a big hit tomorrow.

Wow. I thought they were going to be writing more Kidnap and Ransom policies. If so they would need both U/W and Adjusters. Doesn't make sense. Administrative Staff from CA, CT, GA were let go yesterday and today. I also heard of a few Adjusters in GA today.

I’m in Portland and two units were let go. Total of 11 or 12 of us I think. It was literally a 5 minute meeting and that asked for our badges and we left. Don’t let the door hit us on the way out!

Where are you located? Total layoffs in North America will be 900 this week. Yesterday, today, and some stragglers tomorrow, all so they can process before payday Friday. These 900 are part of the reported 2,700 to 3,000 before the end of the year (started last month).
