Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Do people still believe Chapter 7 is not guaranteed?

Really, folks? Instead of running away as far as you can from Sears, you are still hoping for a miracle? I understand it might not be easy for some people to find a new job, but for heaven's sake, start looking.

This goes double for Kmart. If by some accident some Sears stores do survive, there is no chance the same will happen with Kmart.

@VSMyXht-1nqg People say that SYW actually makes money on the contrary I agree you lose money. Some customers just go to the store to use the points and pay nothing to a little out of pocket and leave. This customers just come for that and I don't blame them, but this is one of the biggest issues with Sears I would say. However cut the hours for the employees and give the customers free things does nothing for the business in the end.

@VSMyXht-1rwn They're not doing a good job weeding out the people who are milking SYW. I know a few of them. I see them all the time. They come in every week to cash in their points, enough to "buy" a toaster, an outfit, shoes, a tool of some kind, sometimes even something like a shop vac or a microwave, and they are so petty that if they had $1 to spend, they would go searching all around the store to find something that was $1 or pretty darned close to it. When there are exclusions that they have missed reading, some of them get snippy and will tell us to our faces that the ONLY reason they bother coming to Sears is to cash in their points. Then they waste so much time at the register by trying to see what will let them redeem their points, so the unlucky salesperson or cashier has to do a big trial and error session on the register to see what will work with the points. They rarely spend any of their own money. If they do, it's only to make up for a few cents' or few dollars' difference in what the points have paid for.

The SYWR program has less of a financial impact than one might guess based on all of the promotional emails and FREECASH promos. Only a fraction of current customers take advantage of the program, and the vast majority of accounts have been dormant for years, sometimes since the customer enrolled. The lesson here is that even a program that lets people get things for FREE is not enough to draw customers into the store. Those that milk the program for all its worth usually get banned and tossed, if only because they are costing the company too much.

OP some of this workers at Sears/Kmart think they will be fine. I warned many of my co workers that if you really need the job and the money to look else where. No one did. The majority at my co workers really got hit hard in the end after they announced closing.

I warned so many co workers about this and none listen. I knew last year that things were going to get ugly (and possibly the following being the final xmas which it did happen in our store being the last one). I started to finally apply and said (how things were getting so bad) that I needed to make a move at my life. As of now I played it super smart and just in time. Hard to even see how co workers don't see that Chapter 7 is indeed coming.

I can't imagine the judge is allowing the points-program to continue. That costs a ton of money in merchandise given away at inflated discounts. That can't make the creditors happy.

when board members and CEO's are bailing out--get out of the boat.. who is trading this turd stock? I don't like the fact that they are scamming people by selling these useless member scripts they call shop your way points.. anyone can see that they will be worth nothing and are worth nothing.

oh has everyone seen the latest promotion "if it snows in central park on veterans day they will reimburse people that bought snowblowers with 100% of the purchase price in points---c'mon EDDIE!

@VSMyXht-not That's nonsense. It was a store with fewer than four thousand people in the town. There's a Walmart right over the border into Canada. The store is getting shut down because there just aren't enough people there to keep such a large store afloat. A town of that size can handle a Dollar General or Dollar Tree, not a large discount retailer.

every time I say it , people tell me to get off this site . I've' worked for sears , nightmare , just want the employees to know how they are being exploited by sears . the job market is good , employers know you have been thru the hard core training already because of sears reputation , get a real job that gives respect and a great atmosphere , just look , you can get the job you want .

When Kmart can't make it work in Madawaska Maine as the only store in town then I'd say there's no hope.

To be fair there’s no guarantee it will be ch7 either. If I were in their shoes I’d be safe and fine another job anyway but nothing is a guarantee.
