Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Some good points why workers are staying at ConocoPhillips

It’s quite simple actually.

Conocophillips handled the downturn extremely well and employees saw that. Literally non-stop fear and anxiety for many many folks who knew their time of coasting was up, but the rot needed to be cured which was seen as a blessing by most.

Conocophillips was engulfed in internal politics, bureaucracy, and corporate red tape where employees almost can’t even do their jobs - luckily many of those people were cleansed over the last few years.

Times are good right now so the talented can go anywhere and other companies know that. They poach people and ConocoPhillips doesn’t really care to keep the dead-wood so they lose those people. The retention rate in certain departments of dead-wood (such as Land) is horrible. But the boss literally does not care lol.

Conocophillips is well known and has long been known as a company that provides you the training you need to go elsewhere lol. Sad but 100% true that ConocoPhillips cares more about making good people rather than keeping dead-wood.

I’m sure I missed some other points but I’m my time their that is what I came to realize. And I was there a while. I will say also that I have no ill will towards the company. They gave me a job and provided food on the table for years. I also gained a lot of valuable experience while there so for that I will always be grateful. But it doesn’t change the overlying facts of what is great with the company. The problem is, they really don’t care. My post will never make a difference up there so it’s basically pointless. But that is the answer to the question(s). Cheers 🍻

Thank God I was one of the "cleansed"! I spent 16 years with H66 and COP...(and BTW averaged a 2 rating for what it's worth and shouldered several challenging assignments and relocations without complaint), am grateful for the training & experience I earned during the "good years", but the toxic environment was destroying my ability to perform at the level I was capable. I'm MUCH better off now... I was in Deepwater (eliminated) and lost the "good 'ol boy" game against the drilling folks. Again, THANK GOD!

I stay working at COP because I’m lazy and don’t want to look for another job. COP pays good , so why not just collect the paycheck every two weeks for what equates to basically a trivial amount of work????

3ymr, it is amusing. Anyone let go in the last 15 rounds must have been worthless, while anyone who remains must walk on water (unless, of course, they’re let go next time -then they s$&&).

The one response is hilarious. It assumes that everyone left at COP is both needed and talented, both of which make me crack up. Funniest post on this page in years.

Funny post. And true. There is way too much negativity in this place by a few lost souls whose time came to an end. HR can sugar-coat it all you like, but you are gone because you either were not talented, or needed.

Not done yet. Which are these people fleeing COP? Talented or dead-wood?

“Times are good right now so the TALENTED can go anywhere and other companies know that. They poach people and ConocoPhillips doesn’t really care to keep the DEAD-WOOD so they lose those people.”

Quit your trolling HR scum.

So people who survived with Conoco, or Phillips, and then COP, through more layoffs than age in years of the new employees, when they’re let go it’s because they’re dead wood and we’re coasting? You’re sickening. The company pushed out people who were adding plenty of value, but they cost more than the newbies and green card folks a d were forced out. To suggest they were let go because they were dead wood is a lie and an insult.

Haha HR is getting slick, but we all know the company is terrible.

Now get back to doing something useful for the organization.
