Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

This time it’s not just about the headcount

Manager here too, no view of this. All agreed much further up.

I know Blackstone have been reviewing the different parts of the business in huge detail since March-April-May as I know people who presented to them.

I take a different view from most though. Previous re-orgs have been solely about the headcount and everyone having to lose 5%-10% (or whatever). This seems much more targeted to me as they're losing specific roles and teams, not hitting everyone, so in a perverse way kind of prefer it this time round.

As frustrating as it is, not knowing in advance who was going and who is safe is actually how redundancies SHOULD be done. Hearing people gloat that they're safe way before any official announcement was always pretty sh*t.

I’m not the original poster, just found this to be a great analysis of this round of layoffs, OP (postID) hit the nail on a head. It was originally posted as a reply on another thread (someone asked if managers had more insider info about who’s been selected and why, instead of giving insider info, poster gave his point of view, which I tend to agree on).

Oh,I see. In Poland, once you've got enough tenure, it's three months starting from the month following the notification (so it can be even almost four months in some cases). Works either way.

I dont think you can opt out. Youre bound by the contract to provide work to the company.

I'm in the US, so there's no union and no contract as a company employee. If I'm forced to transfer to a contractor like Tech Mahindra or Tata with no severance option, the only thing I'm giving is two weeks notice.

If I don't get sacked in this round and my group is eventually targeted to be outsourced to India (which by all accounts, is likely at some point they way things area headed), I'm not going to waste my time training my replacements this time round unless there's a ridiculous stay bonus involved. I've been through this exercise before, and it's a total waste of time. Let them sink. I'm taking my skills elsewhere.

I agree nobody knows who's being made redundant. There are whole chains of managers being laid off i.e. manager, his manager and HIS manager all laid off.

The remaining managers are going to spend most of their life on Workday as they're going to have a lot of staff each.

The problem, which BlackStone almost certainly don't appreciate, is that lots of these managers had duel-roles as techies too. The managerial part of their job may have been easy but the techie part was necessary. For those still working at TR it's going to be horrendous, expect endless conf calls with 20 guys from TCS who don't know how anything fits together & a few poor sods trying to keep it all afloat.

Over the years last 10 years TR has had a number of cuts/re-orgs, which have failed to turn things around.

The quality staff will be happy to jump ship, taking the package on offer - some will even leave without it.

This time around it appears to be all about the savings, with a disregard to skills/experience need to move the products/services forward. Quality staff required to turn this around will be on their bike - and already looking. The good ones have nothing to fear. ( "cream always rises to the top !! ")

However, there are many there that will struggle to get the same package in the real world (and they know it). If you are in this category and have enjoyed an easy ride for a good number of years on over inflated salary and bonus, you should be concerned !

The current leadership team (and -1's ) have not turned TR around so far, yet they are all still on their world tours ? if it is all about savings - a quick look at some individual T&E could help !

For those left, I think it will be a very bumpy ride.

My immediate manager knew a few days before with previous TR redundancies. He was saying this week that as he hadn’t heard anything about the team he is expecting no layoffs. I’m not so sure
