HW?!? you seriously think Oracle is interested in that? think again (better).
HW Oracle sold to the 3-letters-agencies is mostly 2 to 4 years old. very few boxes in the last year. maintenance is for another year or 2, in best case. possibly much less.
Jedi project has a span of 5 years, it will take at least 2 years to just move the first services to AWS or Azure. everyone (inlcuding AWS and Azure) know very well that an HW refresh cycle is due in the next 1-2 years, but unfortunately Oracle wil sell close to nothing and so maintenance revenues will be close to 0 in 2 years from now.
SPARC is dead, pentagon will not buy any box with a sparc cpu inside.
Exa will be highly "discouraged" (and I'm being politically correct here) given the DB strategy of both AWS and Azure.
and that's the REAL point. Oracle is interested in maintaining pentagon footprint in Oracle DB. the REAL risk is that whoever will win, he will dismantle the Oracle DB installed base and correponding maintenance. THAT's the real pita of LE/SC. HW maintenance is just peanuts, we can lose that with no problem at all, noone will ever care.
nope, Oracle MUST enter the deal someway because of Oracle DB, otherwise we will really sink. what SC/LE are doing is just pure surviving, and expect more and more aggressive tactics from now on.
