Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Question

I got an outside offer which I accepted, but I don't want to notify my manager I'm leaving until I absolutely have to. I don't trust him or this company anymore at all.

Can there be any repercussions if I make it a week or less instead of the usual two weeks?

Why give two weeks notice? When they RIF people, it's immediate.

Change your benefits e-mail to a personal account, send your manager an e-mail stating your when last day worked will be and CC your personal account. They will cut off access to everything so also export your contacts if you desire them. Move your 401k and cash out pension if you can to an IRA.

Best of Luck, I'm gone and better off...

Your health insurance will go until the last day of the month of the month that you leave. If you leave any day in July, it will go until July 31. Keep this in mind with your new employer.

How long they keep you around after your announcement depends on your department and boss. Since you do not know how they will react, clear out as much of your personal belongings as you can before making the announcement. You may have to come in early or stay late so it isn't obvious.

Do not accept a counter offer. 80% of employees that accept a counter offer are gone in 6 months. Look up "5 reasons NOT to accept a counter offer".

Vacation policy is in HR Direct. You would probably be ok with what you propose. Always recommend trying to leave on the 2nd day of the month if you have healthcare with HON as then you get the benefit for all the rest of the month. That's why when they can they RIF people towards end of the month

In my 20+ years experience with Honeywell, once you give notice you are let go immediately- I believe it’s a trust issue. Haha, they will not trust that you won’t sabotage something before final day so will let you go right away. I do think they give you vacation/severance for that two weeks though, if it’s their decision to cut you quickly.

Most important for you: cover your a-- and do what’s right for YOU.

Depending on where you are going, you may be walked out the door as soon as you announce, in which case you might get two weeks severance depending on what Honeywell policy is for your site. Regarding policy, I would find and read local unlimited vacation policy before implementing the ethically and morally controversial plan described. You might find that Honeywell retains the right to claw back vacation pay under those circumstances.

Like -ugy said, Honeywell will just acknowledge you worked there. Anyone you use as a future reference could be a wild card if you leave on short notice. Lastly, business is a dynamic thing. You never know what company you work for could be part of the Honeywell conglomerate at some point. Better off just being a professional and giving the standard two weeks.

There is no reprocussion for leaving with less then two weeks notice. Unless you see yourself coming back to Honeywell?otherwise Honeywell and most large companies will only acknowledge they you worked here, thats it, no other info is given out.

Take the vacation time and do not come back.

If a future employer calls they may ask how much notice you gave. That's about it. I would do the following....

1) take two weeks vacation starting your first day at the new job.

2) two weeks in...call your boss and tell them to s--- it and its effective immediately....

3) collect an extra two weeks pay.
