Yes, I know they hand out sheets of paper telling you that you have not been singled out due to race, age or gender. But let’s have a show of hands. If you have been given the boot this week, please tell us your gender, race and whether you are over 40.

Corporate america is color ( and other things ) blind, people. i agree that there is individuals who are biased but the co. is very careful to not let that bias influence such decisions. Cost however related to age and length of service hence we tend to think that some "age" biased is baked in.
I got RIF'd two years ago after 27 years. Never a bad review, boss didn't want me on the list etc. I honestly don't think there is gender or race discrimination If anything, it's age. Not in as much as age itself, but people there a long time who get a lot of PTO's, long term incentives, pension, etc.
When they build the list they just put young people and taken black and Spanish people but there not riffing them.
