Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Its here read the wall when supervisors begin taking packages you need to pay attention

It's here Its now ! prepare for your futures ….Guess what mid and upper levels? You'll get the axe too. Especially when they learn how you have been robbing peter to pay paul, and skewing numbers. The Max system is a LIE, its manipulated by upper level managers to skew numbers so they can hide from the truth as long as they can before they are discovered and receive the Uber Cardboard box treatment. Things didn't go as planned here, and now they are going to put the last nails in the coffin for this area they are GOING TO break the Local Unions, and break shrinking work groups even further !!!! And if you strike ?your positions will be eliminated and replaced with different titled similar positions. They are looking to keep young ones on and hope to move them to contractorship when they pull the last bit of rug from under your Feet. Its laughable some of the "pro" comments here ….Too late they are not even hiding what they are doing …. and completely obvious Jeff Storey has No Idea how to run a telephone company ….probably more importantly he has no INTENTIONS of continuing to keep on rank and file...customers no longer are a part of the equation its all transport, and bottom line good luck everyone. you are witnessing the death of giants AT&T Verizon and yes now us...its only a question of time looks like 2 more voluntary packages on schedule for the year may be a good time to take it ...too old to contract been a good business but transport is the focus......

I can guarantee that anyone higher than area manager, especially "higher ups in level 3" wouldn't give 2 s--ts about your opinions. You don't sound "union guy" to me with talk like that, but I bet you sure know how to stroke your manager.

I am going to screen shot all of these post and send an email to all area managers I know. And send some to higher ups at level 3. I am a proud ctl employee and live this job.

lifer: there are and were slackasses in the company, good riddance to those. But many great people that were let go had given their existence to this company, only to get the boot without any consideration of the experience and knowledge lost. To lose their jobs to save someone else's that had less time and experience. If you want to bank your career on this company, by all means have at it. You sound like the right one to take a position under a manager's desk. It'll be a great future for you.

I'm going to be a CenturyLink lifer. I love this job. Instead of bashing company. Why dont you work harder. Appreciate your job position. All I see is a bunch of crybabies. If you put in as much effort as you do here company wouldn't be bad are you still getting paid now? That's what matters.

That's right, CTL is not upgrading or even maintaining outside plant. No new construction and yes that's why engineers are being cut. Business plan is to let it die, unprofitable and then once they reduce the workers. They will spin it off and let someone else focus on residential. They will just do what sprint did, spin it off or sell it. By 2020 they will have the tools to combat the union and have enough contractors in place to change job titles and move on from the union. Remember LEVEL 3 was enterprise only and had no unions. Hence the low pay and bullying that is going on now. Job title and such will change and now all union will be stuck at the company's mercy. I hope not, but seeing how LEVEL 3 is daring the union to file charges or grievances now. I can only imagine how contract negotiations will go. Because level 3 will NOT negotiate fairly. It's coming people, union stand strong brothers and sisters. I'm grateful for the union and the opportunities they have provided me with. I hope they continue to fight for the workers rights and not let this company bully employees.

Lol, there is no money going into new copper. Residential fiber in new developments must pay back in at most 3 years, the difference is being asked from the developers for which they are telling CTL to take a hike since someone else will give it to them for free. Not much coming out of engineering under that philosophy (hence the big engineering layoffs). Keep thinking you have a secure job if you're in local network....

All that money from lawsuits isn’t going into plant. Just like all the money from Obama and trump didn’t go into plant. It will go to all the upper level scum bags as bonuses again.

I saw them engineers taking a walk so I stopped and asked them things. We are getting new money from The lawsuits, cause everyone knows the unified principle dunt let sales people lie. All the sales people told me they never lie, so after we win and all those customers pay us back and then they will fix and upgrade our plant everything will be fine. Ain't no one losing the jobs.

Upgrade copper and fiber??? Your kidding right. I can’t even get a drop buried or a pedestal replaced or slicker respliced or a bad section fixed. Or my oil changed in my work truck every 10000 miles. Laughable

Yep, ya'll be right. But ctl will be around a long time. They will be upgradeing our plant in 6mos to 2 yeara . all new copper and fiber.

We'll be busy till 2025.

That is why they won 't lay off craft.

Absolute truth. I've been saying the same thing for a while. I took the package and glad I did. I have almost 30 years to work until I retire and I can't see past 2020 let alone 30 years. Everyone is hanging around because they have a pension that they say is "protected". It's really not, only a portion. You would be better off leaving and rolling it into something else. Guys with 8 years or so are going to see what I've been saying about the pension. At least if you take out the money it's yours or designate a beneficiary. It's not yours and no beneficiary if you are still employeed. Get out now before you regret holding on another 2 or 3 years.
