Heck, if Woz had become CEO, Apple would now be a minor subsidiary of Dell. Probably just a brand name. Or perhaps they would have become a part of Radio Shack.
Deep technical experts very rarely come up with a great new vision for the future. Technical experts usually want the same sh-- as yesterday, but faster, smaller and with more extension slots. Want to see what happens to companies led by techies? Look at Nokia. Tech nerds populated the Nokia board. Their vision was to keep making the same dumb „smartphones“, only with a better processor and more memory.
It‘s actually an Indian attitude to think that technical experts make good managers. I am scared that this attitude will enter American and European thinking on leadership.
