Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Everyday something is happening. Why the slow long drag out way of doing this?

Company evidently has a plan. They know how many they want gone. Then just let everybody know and be done with. This long drawn out way of doing things is really something we can all do without.

So everyday we all think, ok who's next? Is my job in danger? Company has no compassion or integrity. Some of the managers even know weeks in advance on who's getting laid off and they keep quiet. Of course they fear for their own job. Its a vicious cycle.

This is the dawning of a new era in telephone business. Good luck to all.

non compete LOL ! its all "lawyer speak " they can try to intimidate you but that is all . I went to a lawyer myself and he told me just take your severance and then move/ change your bank account that is all you need to do to protect yourself.

Non compete clauses are not worth the paper they are written on for anyone but VP level and above. As someone who used to work HR, I can tell you that a company does not have the right or ability to keep you from earning a living to "which you are accustomed". Since for most of us, that means working in the field in which we are trained, they cannot enforce any such clause. They will threaten you with it, but they cannot enforce it and they know it.

Someone mentioned competing with CenturyLink when they are gone. As someone who was offered a package and refused let me tell you that isn't going to happen. There is a one-year no compete clause in your package. I had an opportunity to go take over another Telecom company and was told by my supervisor if I did he would make sure it was the last thing I ever did. Good luck with leaving and competing.

Unifying Principles are DEAD

This company is shady, they are doing it in waves to not draw much attention. They do not follow the "unifying principles " but do the exact opposite. Many people in area I'm at are still waiting on word if the voluntary separation is approved. We know the people most likely got approved. Yet the company refuses to tell them. Why? So they can treat you like you got fired and walk you out the door. No consideration for the employees or family of the employee. Get ready those who had till the 18th to put in paper work, your last day will be this Friday or next. Just show up to the minimum until they let you know or walk you to the door. It's worse to treat your employees this way, esp when the company asked for volunteers to leave. Gives soon to be ex workers more motivation to compete against CTL and tell future cust how they treated employees, so they need to stay clear of this company at all costs.
