Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

How long do we have?

We are now at a point where it is becoming more and more obvious that this is a sinking ship with nobody on it with any idea on how to save it.

The only question that remains is how long do we have before it's completely underwater.

I'm thinking within five years, Barnes & Noble will go the way of the dinosaurs. I would not be surprised if it turned out to be even sooner than that.

I really think they are going to take the markets that are traffic friendly and downsize the stores to the 15000 sq ft size and become more profitable. Currently working in a 30,000 + sq ft store and it is becoming operationally impossible to keep heads above water. Too much inventory going in and out every month when if they just reduced inventory levels of the same item we would be more efficient all the way around. I work with a group of great people that work very hard and will continue to work hard until we can't. I want this store to succeed because I believe the store is a great place to meet and hangout but corporate has to understand that people need assurance.

They cut the cafe discount? Man, that's bad.

How much did they cut it by?

Has anyone read what they're saying on the Booksellers Face Book page? They're complaining about their cafe discount being cut when they should be looking for jobs.

It'll be another disastrous holiday season and the company will call it quits, if they can survive until then. Ask to see your store's numbers!

Downsizing.

That's how they'll survive and cutting health benefits for non-management.

The monster giant stores will go small with smaller staff.

They can keep it going for a few more years. They can easily close more stores and save money there. The question to ask is "why bother keeping it going when it's going under?".
