Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Jeffery Story, Richard Batelaan, Fred Lawler say : We are chasing short-term gains in order to boost stock prices and put more money in the pock

When CenturyLink bought Qwest they said we now have about 52,000 employees we need to get it down to about 40,000 . Now it is the same game over and over . Buy , liquidate , sell no big surprise here , Level3 bought Wiltel, Broadwing , Time warner telecom. Centurylink bought Savis and other cloud services companies then sold them . Consolidate , liquidate over and over it is the game. You cant build a long term career under these conditions. The loss in Human capital cant be measured with metrics and profit and loss . What remains are bully managers and directors forced to carry out draconian orders from SVP, EVP, VP 's : cut costs, save money push harder , get it done yesterday. bring in more revenue , It is sad , it is not about building a company , providing jobs, making a difference in peoples lives, providing a service , it is about short term gains for the big investors , it is about keeping up a good Dividend year after year. How can you continue doing that when the plain old copper lines are not able to keep up with the fast pace of changing technology ? what happened to the 24 Billion in debt the Qwest had prior to CenturyLink ? why did n't Centurylink bring fiber to them home like they did in Amsterdam ? we all know the answers .......good luck middle class you are being slowly squeezed out of existence.

People, understand Storey HATES the consumer business, its a boat anchor around his neck. He would sell it for a dollar if he could fond someone dumb enough to buy it it. Enterprise is all he cares about. He is gonna milk every last drop out of the consumer ftth/gpon/dreaded landline business.

So what's wrong with that? Realistically and honestly, the role of a company is to make money for shareholders, nothing more, nothing less. Jobs are there solely to support the profit goal, jobs are a result of the profit endeavor, not the goal of the endeavor itself " ........oh by the way since you wrote this you are being laid off from your job soon but we won't tell you when and then we will escort you out the door within 10 min .... HAVE FUN GOD BLESS

So what's wrong with that? Realistically and honestly, the role of a company is to make money for shareholders, nothing more, nothing less. Jobs are there solely to support the profit goal, jobs are a result of the profit endeavor, not the goal of the endeavor itself. Too many jobs and that reduces profit, so that is the conflict. Need just enough of the right jobs to maximize profit.

Folks seem to miss the fact many of the jobs cut are in businesses that don't maximize the profit motive. There are limited resources and jobs associated with low return assets go. Sad fact, but just the way it is.

Aerial areas only for overlay. And yes they are still rolling it out in areas. FTTH for buried only on new construction and unless it is a big enough build CTL won't put anything in.

Ctl started bringing in ftth and are still doing it in select locales. I am afraid with all the layoffs that that will stop altogether. I am in a buried area and will probably never see ftth in my area now with all the cost cutting, at least from Ctl.
