Question for claims people who left & went independent

Any of you that have left gone independent? If so, who did you go with, how does it pay & is it better than what you were doing before? Have you worked SF files & how weird is that?

At OP: I have experience in leaving SF and becoming an independent. I can answer your questions here if you'd like to pose them. Having said that, it has been some time since I was an independent and while the money was fantastic back then it has dropped off somewhat now. Mainly due to the time consuming file requirements that independents have to meet now. Pay is going to be based on your capabilities and how efficient you are. If you are experienced and can handle four to six WCCS claims a day now (talking simple hail claims, not tornado etc), you will like what your checks look like as an independent. If you struggle to handle two claims a day in 8 hours, I would suggest you find employment elsewhere.

The big four independent companies will jump on you like white on rice if you have a SF alias. They know that (usually) you are more than competent and they just get to take 33% of your paycheck (price of doing business).

If you do become an indy, make sure you keep a copy of your fee bills as shortages have been known to happen. One company still owes me several thousand dollars but I lost the fee bills so I can't prove it.

How weird is it? It's not. You're there to do a job. You can connect with any SF employees and have a relationship just like you do now. Main difference is, they know that you were cut so they'll feel a touch guilty that they got to keep their jobs and you didn't, but they'll also want to know what life is like on the other side of the fence.

Remember, all the expenses are coming out of your pocket, so hang on to receipts, your tax professional will want them come next April.

Any other questions, just list them here. I'll try to check this page periodically over the next few days. Hope this helps!
