Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Please don't quit just yet

I see a lot of people reacting to what's going on by quitting or saying they will quit in the next few weeks. I understand that people are frustrated and just want to make it stop, but quitting right now is doing State Farm a favor.

Every person who leaves now saves them money in severance. People who are leaving might be on the list to be laid off and are forfeiting a decent amount of money like this. Just wait until this is over, they think they have it how they want it, and then quit. Let them scramble to find somebody with any experience who'll want to join State Farm after this.

I appreciate you looking out for your less fortunate colleagues .1rxr. Leaving spaces open for others is very considerate of you. I wish more people ready to retire would follow your example, rather than stick around for a severance they’re almost certain not to get anyway.

It is all about choice. I am choosing to retire a little earlier than i planned. No severance. Why? Because i can. I am very fortunate, planned well, and it is about my health and my personaldignity at this point. I would rather leave on my own terms than be treated like a number and stuck wherever they want me based on a few multiple choice questions For those left in systems its going to be a s-storm with much good talent gone and those left worked to death. And if my leaving gives someone who truly cannot leave an opportunity to stay then i am grateful i can do that for someone.

Quitting was the best thing I ever did for my health, sanity and family.

Good advice from the two commenters below, albeit different perspectives. But that's good. I think the main takeaway is personal choice. If you've been dependent on a company your entire life in regard to both finances and identity, you're in trouble. The OP gets it right partly, but then wrong by issuing a directive to stay, which is exactly what people don't need right now. People are supporting their own beliefs and illusions in SF who encouraged it as well... You must seek out different perspectives, ALWAYS. That might mean you stay and plan your leave or leave early with another opportunity. Regardless, Slay your illusions and build your own lives again.

You actually might be better off quitting before the big flood. No severance has yet been promised for the IT people. There may be one eventually, but it won’t be a big voluntary payout. Some people may be better off leaving now and getting an earlier start with their next employer, than waiting, hoping you get some extra money, and competing against a lot of people from SF entering the job market at the same time.

State Farm is a master manipulator. Of insureds, claimants, vendors, judges, law makers, and most of all, employees.

For decades there has been a covert message in training: worker, you need us, be loyal because you are nothing without the company. This site proves it. People considering grass is greener theories, loss of self worth, damaged marriage, self help "I am alright after leaving." The company encourages workers to take on the identity of the company. This is unhealthy. The current post shows the breakdown of this philosophy and reasserts the power the company desires: we control when you leave, not you; worker, you are responsible for our happiness, not us. When we suffer-you suffer. People, quit this enmeshed, codependent corporatism horror. Wake up, control your own life, chart your own course. Realize the American Dream is not what they are telling you, it is you. I left the company and now work for myself. I work longer, harder, am responsible for every aspect of my life. You can either pay the Farm's bills or send them bills. Do not let Tippy or any one else decide this for YOU.
