Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Most DXC support is lost due to Backup and storage inability.

Being unable to backup and properly store the backup is a big flaw with the backup and storage teams across DXC. Backup engineers are mostly unable to configure a backup for multiple reasons.

  1. Unaware of Oracle databases

  2. Unaware of SQL databases

  3. Unaware of clusters

  4. unaware of MS-Exchange databases

5 unaware of basic OS/platform fixes viz VSS, SMB, disk issues

Customers are leaving and backup team engineers are getting promoted to managers (even with a lack of skills).

Agreed, Backup and storage team knows how to pay back the peanuts that DXC pays..

Karma dear friends

Karma for DXC

Backup and storage teams are giving DXC its due. The lack of training is now backfiring. Low salaries keep employees from spending on new tech. Karma is getting back at DXC, slowly and steadily.

Makes sense, but at least you were hiring people with hands on experience, and it makes sense. I would prefer someone with hands on experience over someone that read a book, however these cowboys, hired people with NO experience, that have just graduated, and had NO IT experience, leave alone specific backup.

Certifications are useless, its shows a person can take a test. Most people that are certified can't do any real work. Yes they are good at reading and taking a test, but do they understand how things work and if they don't now to go about debugging. I think not.

I used be a hiring manager and every single time I hired someone with certs for the position I was hiring for they failed and had to let them go. Rather have someone who learned on the job, with some formal training and actually have some insights on what to do when something breaks, than a person with certs!

If a team fails, you dont point the finger at that team and say you guys are sh*t! You point the finger at their management, because they didnt ensure when they employed those people that they were sh--, they employed grads, with no knowledge whatsoever and all that to save costs. And I can, to some degree understand why they do that, but why the f-- don`t they arrange for training, and certifications to ensure that those grads, learn more and they can actually do the job. EVERYTHING in HP/HPE/DXC is learned from someone else, good or bad. Very few people actually read a book or go though training material, because guess why? That costs money! So start pointing the finger at the people who actually are to be blamed, and that is, as always, the MANAGEMENT!!!

I agree with the poster, some backup team members cant debug there way out of a wet paper bag. But who's fault is that ? There is no good documentation for new offerings, the new capabilities management from HPES isnt in place yet.

But others know their stuff, I see more issues with the OS and networking than I see with Backup software issues. The Data Bases all have software agents that can be used for backups , if only the DBA's would let go and accept centralized backup is the way of the future (even if management has given up and are now letting DBA's do their own backups to backup storage appliances.)

You state the backup team is unaware, we're not suppose to be experts at Data Bases or OS's, that's the platform team. We are experts or at least knowledgeable in the backup software/hardware we support.

Scripting is not required for anything.

Backup software takes care of it all. What is needed is someone who knows computers.. that's all.

If you don't know abt UNIX and Windows - what the fuuks are u doing with the Backup Software ? It's high time you upgrade..

Need a good scripter for that, how many of the platform guys even know scripting let alone the backup guy?

People write some really strange stuff on this page.

Are you trying to suggest that everyone in backup and storage should be fired so that you aren't?

Have you thought about doing yourself a favour and just going to work somewhere else so that you don't die from stress, hate and anger?
