Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Done?

Are last week layoffs done? Should we worry they'll spill into this week?

Funny you mention the OSP jobs. Sat in a meeting last week and the OSP supervisor said - I will be gone when that job is done, and we commented afterwards that seemed like a strange thing to say since she is not old enough to retire. Maybe they have already been given the word?

Has anyone heard if they're even offering severance packages to those engineers being laid off?

all osp engineering going to outsource was supposed to be across the board in March but now a rolling layoff area by area making sure sufficient trained contractors in place to handle workload. after 6 months laid off osp engineers can be hired by contracting company but no sooner per contract which is why it is being done on a roll.

Sadly i agree with the last post. So close retirement but yet so far away. I was hoping to make it 4 more years but i would be shocked if i make it. I have been waiting to get back into a CO job because i though that would be secure, but that is the dept that took the cuts a couple months ago. Not sure any dept is safe. They claim Business is the dept to be in, which is where I am, but after talking to legacy L3 techs I am not so sure about that.

As the other poster says, i think it will be all L3 people and CTL people only where L3 people can't fill the jobs. It's a shame to see the place get gutted.

Yes Glen Post was not going to,leave until 2019 but he is going to leave any day now. Jeffery Story and his minions want to cut and chop and weld the axe to the company Payroll. They want Glen out of the way and Glen won't stick around for the carnage. Only those depts which are needed for the " new " CenturyLink are relatively safe . If you are over 50 lookout . If you have a position which can be duplicated by a current Legacycy Level 3 employee , look out. These layoffs will continue as the new management reshapes CenturyLink into a lean machine. Its all about numbers and shareholder value. It's all about synergies , hundreds of millions of dollars cut from capital expenses. The Public relations dept will be kept busy putting a new shiny face on the business while the techs in the field become the whipping persons for management. Everything must be done yesterday and don't waste valuable resources. These guys are nitpicking down to don't waste gas by leaving the aircond on , turn off the truck etc. GPS every asset , track the minions and get to work !

While highly paid and well educated Engineer , IT, GIS, and business groups twiddle their thumbs waiting for projects to get off the ground and then its why is it not finished yet ? high speed data needs its pipelines get to work !
