Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

People should be angry-

I don’t care if you are 23 or 65 or anywhere in between!! Everyone on this forum should be angry!! What’s happening in our workforce and our country is a travesty. When the majority of people by far in a layoff are over 50, it’s WRONG.

If you are younger, just know that someday it will be you. Know it.

I know when you are 30 it’s hard to imagine 55-60. But hopefully you will get there! And if you have built your career on any company that treats ‘older’ employees the way this company does- you need to run. Or stand up and try to change things.

Honeywell s---s but they are far from the only company who does this. It’s becoming a USA trend.

Either that or lower Medicare age to 55. At least give us healthcare when you take our careers and income away.

Does it s--- to get laid off at 55? I bet it does. That said, your age doesn't make you a protected class, or shouldn't. Why should Honeywell pay significantly higher wages to someone that can be reasonably replaced by much lower cost labor? It isn't shipping jobs overseas but it is shifting jobs from high cost to low cost. Honeywell's job is to make returns for shareholders and that's what they're doing.

That is of course assuming that there is merit to this claim that the over 50 crowd is being targeted more heavily for RIF's.

Um, the VP’s moving was a sarcastic remark. They like cheap engineers, but they like living in the US.

The Dave Cote quote is true.

My. Neighbor is an Aero VP Engines. Are they being asked to move to India? Or is that a rumor!

Sure, sure. Just do the needful. Rumor has it Aero. VP’s are moving to India to be closer to “the best Engineers in the world”. (A quote from Dave Cote). Good luck, find a better company to work for in the US.

Age shouldn’t matter if you still have the skills and passion for your work. Not everyone over 50 is counting down the days until they retire; they are actively engaged in their jobs. Honeywell and others are throwing away a lot of human capital. I’m really surprised that the EEOC isn’t monitoring Honeywell to see how many over 50employees they let go. We need to use outpr HIPACC funds for our own lobbying to get this changed. Maybe team with AARP?

But the percentage of over 50 laid off is far greater than the percentage of those over 50 at HI. The transfer of wealth continues. Those who thought or still think trump was going to fix this don't have their eyes open. The guy doesn't even pay his bills. Or taxes. Make no mistake about it - those who already have full pockets resent paying salaries. There seems to be no comprehension that without salaries there is no product. Funny thing tho - if they get their way, who will buy their goods? No one will be able to afford it. Work on something you can do on your own. OP is right it's the same all over. Work for yourself.

When the majority of people currently employed by HON are over 50, the majority of those impacted by a layoff will be too. In other words- demographics s---....
