Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Being asked to move to headquarters and not for a promotion

Anyone else being asked to move to either the SBGs headquarters or to Morris Plains or Atlanta?

This is more than the standard question in HPD that the manager has to check if you are willing to relocate for a promotion

I was asked if I would move to Atlanta or Morris Plains with my own money, not with a relocation package. I am in Corporate

Some of my SBG people are being firmly asked to relocate to their SBG HQ or to Atlanta or Morris Plains. Nobody, including myself was given a deadline. The inferences were if you don't your job may be at risk

DO NOT MOVE - let them fire you and take the 1wk/yr severance. They don't own you and if you are good at what you do than you can find another job or find a way to generate income for yourself.

Why some people subjugate themselves to corporate overlords is beyond me. Moving for a promotion or b/c you personally want to live wherever are good reasons. Moving on your own dime to do a solid for your employer who will FU in the A every which way possible if it is incremental to EPS sounds more like Stockholm syndrome to me.

As COBRA premiums may be paid from your HSA, suggest you fund your HSA to cover that as part of your emergency fund. Premiums are around $550/month for a single and probably double that for a family.

With the usual disclaimer about state and country laws, consider that terminated employees are eligible for unemployment benefits unless they are terminated "for cause" such as not being able to fulfill the typically impossible PIP requirements. Companies do have to pay into the unemployment insurance fund and the amount increases if they lay off many people, but it's probably much less than the severance benefits. They need to do something to reach the very ambitious, new free cash flow number that they announced for this year.

Severance benefit is definitely deleted from HR Direct. If you go into HR Direct and search for the word Severance it shares a link/path on where it is and it's gone. And that help note was updated I. January so the benefit was removed recently

Legally they do not have to pay any Severance. They only have to follow each states or countries laws. In the USA search for WARN Act. Usually need to layoff over 100 to 500 per site to be covered by the law. And the law usually only requires 60 days paid notice during which the company can make you work the entire time. If this is what they are doing you better save up your own emergency fund with 6-9 months of living expenses including health insurance

We heard late last year that severance was either being cut again or eliminated after the latest Aero RIFs. This company seems to be becoming more aggressive about getting rid of older workers under the guise of "we need you to be working in this location." There have been too many incidents of "oh $hi!, so and so used to do that and no one else knows how to do it!" recently, and it's just a matter of time before something major blows up and then it will be a financial, regulatory or PR nightmare. Good luck to those who choose to remain.

Corporate HR SVP said a few months ago that employees should not be able to live where they want. Guess it is being put into practice.

Tell them no without relocation if that even works for you. Look for a new job in the meantime. Early 2019 is plenty of time to find something else.

maq - I don't think there is a package....they are saying your job is based there or being moved there and they are giving you the "opportunity" to go to one of these places. Wonder whats going to happen to the "leaders" that are in places like Arizona...think these turds are being told they need to move? Doubt it.

I couldn't find the Severance Benefit either I looked it up in December and it was actually with the benefits like family leave, tuition for school, etc and they moved them all to a different spot in HR Direct and Severance is gone. Never a good sign at Honeywell since benefits never improve

What is the RIF package if you do not relocate?? The deleted the USA RIF benefit document from HRDirect

The last time it went missing they were removing the 60 mile rule, where if you had to drive 60 miles or more you could get Severance Benefit. Anyone who was notified of RIF in 2018 know if it is 1 week per year of service? Most good companies are 2 weeks per year of service up to 2 years severance

Just another way to cull out middle age to older employees.

Force their hand to offer you a relo. They offered many relo packages to older employees in the working from home screwup most declined and yes they were terminated or retired.

Good luck.

Been asked as well to move to MP. Most people either tell them yes and delay as long as they can while they look for a job with a real company or outright tell them to s--- it. The majority telling them to s--- it. I have been told they want everyone moved to an HQ, More-a-- Plains or Atlanta by early 2019 and 99.99% on their own dime. It sounds like yet another tool to make people leave on their own.

BEWARE - make sure you factor this in....over the years i have seen SEVERAL people uproot their lives and families and move to one of these expensive "Hubs" only to be riffed or fired soon after or several who have gotten lesser jobs and responsibilities once they move.

You would have to be a special kind of stupid to move for a Honeywell job. The only ones who would are the typical 5h1thead who s---s so bad they couldn't find a decent job anywhere else or perhaps someone from a 5h1ith0le country like India trying to stay in a country that has toilets ; )

Take it.

They couldn't be more obvious that you should take the offer, or perish quick in next RIF

Good luck to you
