I am the wife of a dedicated employee of 34 years who lost his job 3 days ago. We have been married for 41 years, and it broke my heart to see him so crushed and let down. His pride and feelings were deeply hurt. He feels that he was never appreciated and wonders "Why did this happen to me"? There no explanation given to him. Since then, he has received numerous calls from employees in the company expressing shock and dismay about the news. They share their worry that they will be next on the chopping block. Everyone stated that no one works harder than him in his department. He is full of knowledge and experience after so many years. They also want him to put everything together and share his knowledge with them before he leaves. Wow! How can another human being with a beating heart be so cruel and disrespectful. How can you eliminate someone's job of so many years and then turn around and ask this of them. He has seen the company go through SO MUCH CHANGE. He continues to say that he wishes that he could have made the decision to retire and on his own and not the company. He was only a year and half away from telling the company that he was going to retire. He was excited about the months ahead, but WS took the joy from him when they called him the morning of January 18th for a brief discussion. The phone call was indeed brief. The conversation lasted five minutes. All of that hard work, heart, respect, and dedication to a company for 34 years and only a five minute discussion to tell you that they do not want you any more. It is amazing how greed and power can hurt so many people's pride and their lives. For the last 10 years, he has done the work of three people, without any help or respect. The location where he works presently only has five employees in the whole office. I remember when at least 40 people worked in this location office . They were a family and were so happy. It literally now looks like a ghost town. Ceiling tiles are discolored from a leaking roof, carpet tearing up, lights out, mold, nasty restrooms, and computers that break down on a monthly basis. I always felt sorry for him working in such a horrible working environment. However, he never paid attention to his surroundings, because his focus was on getting jobs completed. Overall, I watched my husband go to work everyday and put his heart and soul into making management happy and the customers happy. Also, he and I have lived in fear since 2008, when this type of behavior from the top begin happening in this company. I am a school teacher, and I praise the Lord that I am respected by my administrator and superintendent. I wish that he could have been treated with the same respect for his outstanding service and work ethnics. Even though he and I are so disappointed in the unethical actions and decisions this company makes, we are beginning to feel peace about WS's decision to phase out his job. I feel that this is God's way of saying that this is not the place for him any longer and there are bigger, better, and brighter days ahead for him. My advice for anyone who is young enough, please begin researching companies who have a reputation of taking care of their employees and caring about their customers and go to work for them. It is obvious that WS is not a place where a future exists. Heart, appreciation, and respect are missing in this company. Our daughter shared a devotion with us this morning that she and her family read last night that comes from 2 Corinthians 5:7, John 2:11, Micah 7:7. If anyone of you are faced with what we have faced, please feel free to read it. It has given us so much peace and comfort through this ordeal. My prayer is that this company develops compassion and heart for their employees, instead of focusing on power and greed.

This doesn’t make any sense, they just hired a bunch of folks recently. What the heck? Is this RIF just going to happen at one site or company wide affecting multiple locations?

What do you call a company made from EarthLink and Windstream that loves to fire people? Earth Wind and Fire! Ba Dum Tsss!

But seriously, yes, tomorrow will be a bad day. The oracle tells of HR using its heavy hand to smite mighty numbers on the 18th of January. Godspeed to all.

Welcome to Corporate America. Their vision has been, for the past 2 years or so, is to change people around because the previous shift didn’t work. I expect more of the same. But hey here is a thought....leave someone in the position long enough to learn it and appreciate it and thrive in it. Right now every time a job needs to be done, a new project manager or salesperson is in place and they couldn’t find their a-- with both hands and a stand up mirror. Hey management, keep the good people with technical backgrounds and quit moving flow chart readers into positions that show customers that windstream has no damn clue of what they are doing. That’s why the processes don’t work because you set us up to fail. We can never recover from the stupidity some of our employees convey

This is scary. Windstream has a lot of employees (more than any other company I have worked for) with employees with long tenures. They have so many employees who have dedicated 10 or more years to the company. It is really sad to see people cast off repeatedly, like all their years given to the company meant nothing. No loyalty anymore. Just the bottom line.

Here we go again...hopefully Tony will be one to exit and exit quickly...he is the main reason this company is failing...letting the existing leadership or should I say lack of leadership run this company into the ground is proof the CEO needs to bow down gracefully and exit! Many existing and past employees have been very vocal about the ongoing chaos and to literally turn the cheek and ignore the worker bees is the fault of the CEO...time to leave Tony!
