Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Can I volunteer for a layoff?

I will be moving within a few months for family reason, with no IT employment opportunities where I'm going. I have some savings, but it would help me out immensely if I received any kind of severance.

I'm well aware that I can't quit and expect severance. But if I simply say I'd be open to voluntary layoff and not mention moving? I'm a bit desperate due to the situation I'm in, so I'm grasping at straws. Has anybody tried to volunteer for a layoff and was granted one?

Hi. I volunteered for a redundancy this month and was told it’s not something they could offer.

Do you think I have any other option than resign? I cannot stay.

Thanks!

@dphq

Thanks. I actually burned out last year. And being not client billable is the only condition from your list I fulfill. I’ll try it nevertheless. Either they kick me out or I resign. I cannot even look at the pc. So I am no good to them anymore anyway. It is scary to leave but staying means staying on a sinking ship.

Good luck to us all.

If you are ex-EDS then be sure to use your "Professional sick leave" to recuperate from the cr@p. Otherwise make an appointment with your doctor to get sick leave. There's more to life than working in a dead-end company.

The chances of a WFR being approved for volunteers are slim unless one is very expensive in terms of salary, aged 50+, not client billable or situated in a low cost country center which targeted for closure. Good luck!

I am thinking of asking to be wfrd. I cannot stand working here anymore.

I need time off to recuperate from this chaos and stress.

How likely it is I will get wfrd if I am actually doing a unique (sure they will someone to replace me but they are stretched thin already) work and as far as I know there are no further WFRs planned in my team?

My manager is ok, I believe I can have a mostly open discussion with him.

If this fails I am ready to resign anyway. Just it would be nice to get something for the past year of mental abuse in this nuthouse.

ex senior manager..

do not let on you want to go anywhere else for own good. They will hang you out waiting for a resignation due to personal reasons.. save money.

So you need to let your manager know you have had enough of all the redundancies and insecurity and job in general. Sleepless nights and feeling stress and anxiety.. long term sick possibility the manager will think Say your not looking for an external job but would be fine with redundancy and will have a break, fsmily time and then look for another job.

this way you save the manager forcing a compulsory..cough cough as you have voluntered. they get pat on back.. you get out and once gone and been paid.

then let colleagues know relocating snd would have left anyway. redundancy was brilliant.

you owe nothing to anyone in this conpany.. you are an FTE.. a cost.. nothing more nothing less.

play the game. you can win.

good luck with your future endeavours.

Realistically unless you are part of a protected class I sincerely doubt they would help you. Point being, I know a lot of people that I work with that would leave in a heartbeat if they got max severance (8 weeks). I'm not sure DXC wants to open Pandora's box and let it be known that if you volunteer to leave you will get X amount of severance. Keep in mind, even though they plan to cut to the bone they still do need to keep people so the business can operate. Again I suspect if they sent out an email saying if you volunteer to leave you will be rewarded it would open up the flood gates.

I was never close to my bosses, never kissed a--, never brown nosed, never stayed past 4pm, never begged for a raised, never attended hokey employee bs get togethers, attended team events but left 30 min into it. Posturing and impressing your management just gets you to be there slave or go to boy/girl. Let's give it to my favorites. Best thing they could of done for me was to let me go. Thank you. Severance, Unemployment, happiness, Thank you HP, HPE, DXC. you are such clowns for making the decisions you make. Now i have time to poke fun and point out the flaws that I could never have done if i were still employed by your flunky company. Thank you.

I left HPE at the end of March 2017 - I went on a voluntary basis. The round or two after mine were also voluntary leading to compulsory if they did not get the headcount reduction numbers they needed. Good luck and be considerate when you indicate your willingness to go - hopefully they will help you help them.

It would depend on your relationship with your boss, the person who would make the decision.

If you have a good to great relationship then without elaborating state that a WFR will help you, and if you can be considered... Done. Don't read in too much into their response as they are no supposed to transmit their intention to those targeted for WFR. At that point it is out of your hands, the seed is planted but whether it grows ???

You stated "... a few months..." March is a no-brainer for WFR's, DXC needs to hit the targets they have been toting for a year or so. Come hell or high-water, they will do whatever and WFR their mothers if need be to hit the targets. So you may actually be swimming with the stream on this one.

I am looking at March for a wishful WFR. Not a great relationship, but I believe good enough to state to my manager that I volunteer for a WFR. I am planning to drop that turd in late February which places me in the March culling.

Once you utter those words from you lips to your managers ear, realize that the gasoline is now being poured as in you are moving past a point of no return. The bridge doesnt have to burn but that is up to you and your managers reaction.

Good luck on your move, hope it all works out for you and you family.

PS - I know most of the posts below are in jest but some of that behavior will just simply get you fired with no severance. Just a thought...

Become a low performer. Just do the bare minimum while your management gets all the $$$$. It's sad employees want out so bad. They just keep stringing the poor saps along. It must be god awful not having any of the fun or social characters around anymore. That is what makes work enjoyable. The people not the management. Even money would not keep me in a disgusting situation that those employees are in right now. Now starting today become forgetful and call in sick. Good Luck

Go into WorkDay and change your date of birth so it says you are over 50. That'll do it.

I did not volunteer but I made it clear to my manager on my 2016 year end review to not worry if he had to make the call. Was gone in 4 months after 32 years. "Not doing your job for a couple weeks" will probably not work. Those are the peeps they are keeping,

To be honest, that's what I'm hoping. But I can't be sure.

Why not just not do your job for a couple of weeks and you'll be on the list?
