It would depend on your relationship with your boss, the person who would make the decision.
If you have a good to great relationship then without elaborating state that a WFR will help you, and if you can be considered... Done. Don't read in too much into their response as they are no supposed to transmit their intention to those targeted for WFR. At that point it is out of your hands, the seed is planted but whether it grows ???
You stated "... a few months..." March is a no-brainer for WFR's, DXC needs to hit the targets they have been toting for a year or so. Come hell or high-water, they will do whatever and WFR their mothers if need be to hit the targets. So you may actually be swimming with the stream on this one.
I am looking at March for a wishful WFR. Not a great relationship, but I believe good enough to state to my manager that I volunteer for a WFR. I am planning to drop that turd in late February which places me in the March culling.
Once you utter those words from you lips to your managers ear, realize that the gasoline is now being poured as in you are moving past a point of no return. The bridge doesnt have to burn but that is up to you and your managers reaction.
Good luck on your move, hope it all works out for you and you family.
PS - I know most of the posts below are in jest but some of that behavior will just simply get you fired with no severance. Just a thought...
