Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Does anyone know how many people and what positions were affected by the layoffs?

Was it every store and every single full-time non-manager position? Or did it also affect part-time?

Also, are there any café people who were let go? I'm scared I'm going to walk into work tomorrow and be told that I'm now jobless :c

I really wish Barnes & Noble would release an official statement about it and stop being so sh--ty. At least explain why you ruined so many people's lives and income. We need more information.

We also lost our bargain lead and what fulltime bookfloor leads we had left.

Our store lost digital, music, HC and RM. I assume they will probably also be cutting any newsstand leads but haven't heard that yet. I would be v nervous if I were a kids or cafe lead because surely they're next on the chopping block when this move fails to improve the profits of stores since nobody will know anything or be able to find product or be able to adequately serve the customers...

@mkx It's been the end of the company for a while, lol

Sales have plunged and so has stock ($4.70/share). They're trying every way possible to stay alive: restaurants in stores, apps to find things in stores and replace physical employees, and of course, the memberships. My store has been relying on the whole B&N membership scam to stay afloat. Traffic-sales conversion in my store is around 25%.

I also hate the stupid coupons they keep printing out to try to get people to buy from the café. They're losing money from that, just like they did with the $1 any drink weekend. Add-ons don't help with that... It's all led me to think, "What the f--k are they even doing anymore?"

They brought in Demos, from Staples (dead store).

And now this new guy from GNC (another dead store).

The company is dying.

2018 might be the year.

it's all based on store volume. stores above 8 million keep receiving managers. most stores are not above that cut off and make significantly less, so more positions are cut. it all depends on your store. i've heard that bargain, newsstand, head cashiers and receivers have all been fired depending on store volume. kids and cafe leads seem to be safe for now and part timers who aren't in receiving are safe. but who knows when the next round of firings begins. this is obviously the end of the company.

we're unsure about our other head cashier because she was not scheduled today. Hoping for the best because she has been with the company for 16 plus years and is set to retire next year.

Children's department leads and managers are safe

So far we lost one of our two head cashiers and our receiving manager. According to our CBDM, they have until Wednesday to inform everyone getting cut. I haven't heard of any part-time cuts.

Wait, I thought all head cashier and receiving manger positions were termination. I was told those positions were eliminated. How can they keep the positions for some but inform us that position is now obsolete???? Please respond! Something does NOT add up here...

Depends on the sales volume of the store. Mine is a high-volume so we lost bargain, mags, and digital leads. But smaller stores are losing head cashier's and receiving managers too.

To quote and indent, use > at the start of a paragraph you wish to quote

to refer to a post just enter a post id (for this thread you can be like @RIEmzCr )

to refer to a user use the last three characters of his post id - for example - @bvr

if you use one or two * before AND after the word you get bold or italic, something like this - there was a post on this cannot find it now
