Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Emotional distress suit

Frankly, I think that after everything that has happened and all the continuous delays in letting us know what's going to happen and when, I think we might have grounds for a class action suit for emotional distress Humana caused us.

Okay, I know we don't really have grounds, but damn we should. How many people here have had to use medication due to stress and anxiety of the past few months? No company should be able to mistreat its workers this way.

People were mad with no notice but when you give a notice at least have concrete timeframes. You cant just keep it a guessing game. I wouodve appreciated the notice if they would have said you will know on this day and then we will have meeting on the next morning.

When abnormal becomes he new normal, there in lies the problem. It's not normal to intentionally distress your employees and then say we care about your health! They did not do us any favors being so called "transparent" with us. What info did they actually tell us? People will be laid off. Not who exactly, or how many or what criteria they are using or from what dates. They put ALL of us under duress for what reason?! To make us feel better? I don't feel better! And not one single email or notice since then. 3 weeks later we are still left wondering, it is me? Just because other companies treat people poorly doesn't mean it's ok or "normal".

Kind of harsh dkn. Change is always expected and needed especially in the health care field. This week however it really does seem someone in Humana management did forget the lesson on change that teaches to not change everything at once. And certainly rolling out a different policy change each day should be avoided. It does not foster confidence in management.

I highly recommend EAP. I went after the last round. I was driving myself nuts with worry and stress. It was very helpful, and yes I was told we create our own stress. I learned some good tools to help me cope. It's free. You have nothing to lose

Every job I have ever had the roles and expectations changed from 1st day of hire over the course of my employment. Some changes were drastic but I survived. You will have problems in life if you are unwilling or resent change.

I suggest not working for such a large corporation in the future if you are looking for warm and fuzzy and nurturing. As someone said before, stop playing victim! At any time during these changes and even now, you could have searched for a new job. You are not being held against your will. If you continue to be employed by a company you feel is emotionally abusive and evil for changing their expectations then its of no fault but your own. I suspect you will continue to play victim and will probably attack me and say I'm not sensitive. That's fine. You obviously have a perverse relationship with victim hood and cannot handle the truth.

Yes.. to anxiety meds. As far as bringing it on ourselves? Maybe parts. But just let us know. They are strategists in every sense of the word.

Be greatful for this site because management would loved to have keep as much information to themselves as legally possible. Best of luck to all.

I have been employees for all the layoffs and have followed this site for the last 3. People were upset when we were blindsided by the layoffs. Now people are upset when we have been given a warning that the layoff is coming well in advance. Truly...if I go...i am thankful for being given 60 days notice and a severance package. Not many do that. I was previously rifed somewhere else and was met at the door and given a box to place my belongings in and had to leave. They gabe a small severance package...but no warning.

I feel thankful that we were warned and were able to make adjustments to our spending plus a 60 notice and a package after. I agree that is is stressful...but its the business unfortunately.

actually why are we not all on same page. No this is emotionally not right but the higher ups could care less as long as they make there FAT salary and bonus checks we are scum on their shoes as they climb over us to their goals. Stressed yes, medication YES...my fault no way.

The job description i had when i came her 9 yrs ago is by far nothing like it is now. So those who are saying we should s--- it up...THEY changed the role expectations ....

I know I cause my own stress by immediately going to worse case scenario. I have gone back to yoga and meditation. I know this sounds goofy, but I have to admit it has helped.

This company treats us no differently than any other Fortune 500. You don't need coddling or hand holding, you're an adult. Stop playing victim. Personally it's getting tiring. We are all in the same boat, yet I don't feel victimized.

No one would intentionally choose to work for a company that treats it's employees like this. Most of us are victims of the circumstance. You can't control how stress takes a toll on you mentally and physically, you can only try to make stress relieving choices when it happens. We did not ask for this nor did we do anything to cause it. Shame on those of you that feel we brought this on ourselves and that is it not okay to be upset. We have every right to be upset!! And this is WRONG!

We cause our own stress and unhappiness. How one reacts to a situation is by no fault of anyone else.

One thing I have been pondering is how have I contributed to my own suffering this week? And constantly visiting this site has not alieviated any emotional distress, but only stirred the pot.

Sorry you’re so stressed but no one said you have to keep working for Humana. We wanted transparency and we got it. It’s not emotional abuse. It’s business.
