Original poster asked for Travel nursing but not with hospitals...I have not heard of anything specific, but I know that home health and hospice nurses are needed in other states to make home visits. You can start to call Travel nurse companies and see if there are any contracts in those areas. Might be challenging to have to find patient homes in a new city though. What type of nursing are you specifically interested in? I look for several hours a day for RN jobs, but in my area. I will keep my eyes open for ideas and post if I find anything interesting. Is there a specific area of the country to which you would like to travel?

Another idea is being a school nurse. I don't know where you live, but in my city and the counties around it, all the elementary schools employ nurses. The problem here is that they are LPN positions. They will hire RN's but at the LPN rate of pay. I wish I could tell you what city/county I am in, but I think that will give away my identify. In my county, the LPN start pay is a bit over 12.00 an hour with a max at 14.75, which is achieved with years of seniority. I feel bad for the LPNs, I didn't know they got paid so low. But a county position has excellent retirement benefits, time off, and not to mention off every summer too

Yes, please, also looking for ideas for other non-hospital nursing jobs and preferably not 12 hr shifts (I’m limited by day care hours). Thank you!

Thanks, for your kind words. You are one of the nicest and most encouraging posters here. I sure hope I will find something, but still need to consider that plan B too. I hope you are blessed with a great job that treats you well. You sound very kind and your company deserves to have you. If you are member facing, I know all your members appreciate you too

Silly you. It is a scary time right now. You will not end up at Wal-Mart. I am praying that you find something BETTER than you can imagine. Take the rest and keep the faith. You will find what you love. You made it this far, you can go just a little bit farther. It is a scary and exciting time. Probably, after the first of the year, you will have multiple calls and have to choose one. Hang on. It's going to be okay.

I wish. I have been looking non stop since last week. It seems you have to be an RN with recent hospital experience. Positions looking for recent ICU, NICU, ER, OR and Labor and Delivery experience. Also tons of travel nurse job postings that require the same w/recent hospital experience in the last year. Or positions that require bilingual in Spanish. Some home health and hospice positions that require you to drive to your assignments...I haven't seen anything viable yet in my area either. Health care has changed dramatically in the half decade I have been at Humana. I would do a Google search for up and coming roles for nurses in the new health care field. Attorney offices look for nurses to review documentation for cases, workers comp uses nurses w/case management experience. You just have to be creative for a position. I am done with the hospital too. No more lifting 400 pound ICU patients for me either. I am curious about what other people are looking for too. Will you guys post some out of the box ideas here? I would like to secure another position before January and I hope that position is not with Wal-Mart. Great company, great place to save and shop, just not where I hope to end up
