Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Filling open positions from the outside

It is nearly impossible to transfer internally to a new position. The system is set up to not absorb many of the impacted employees. In order to even apply for a posted position you must have ALL the requirements, some of which are just ridiculous. If you do not have all the skills you will be immediately rejected. Don't have the experience? Too bad, there is no way to get it. Top employee in your department? Doesn't matter if you are missing that one skill. Most of us are highly intelligent and could quickly learn new skills and adapt to a new position but are not afforded the chance. I have been told, in many cases the hiring manager already knows who is going to fill the position, but has to go through the motions of posting. They are hiring outside the company to fill the majority of the openings. We don't stand a chance of staying with Humana unless we take a big step backwards!

This, @Q8VBURG-3wqb, this infuriates me to no end. We have so many people who could stay with the company instead of being laid of by filling those positions, but they've made the process impossible for a reason. They don't want us to stay. Not sure why, but that's the way it is. Logically, getting somebody from within the company who already knows how Humana functioned would make more sense, but apparently logic is not being followed here.

There is no hiring block, in fact the company is incented to retain us. They have a team dedicated to helping those who want to stay to find other positions. This helps associates and also saves them from paying severance. As stated, the decisions are not based upon performance because that would basically reward poor performance. It would be better for companies to fire us than pay us and not offer strong performers similar compensation. The fact that we are struggling to find jobs in the company partially validates the decision. They eliminated positions that were not needed, not the people. Most companies do not offer internal search assistance to impacted employees. This one does. That may not make us feel better, but to say that they do not care is not true. The competition is fierce. As you can tell in the quality of the posts here, there are a lot of great candidates for each position.

A Humana recruiter told me last week you need all required and all desirables in order to get an interview because there are so many applying for each position. Honestly, if the company wanted us we would be the ones remaining and not our teammates. We have been let go for a reason. They will either fill positions with internal friends or external before us.

I have heard since I started with Humana, before layoffs started that moving up or moving internally to a new position was almost impossible. I wrote this off as a new, eager associate. I was convinced by my original recruiter & during my interviews Humana likes to promote its own. Opportunities are all over the place! But, I have seen no one move up since I started, only let go. I have heard of 0 people getting a role after being impacted. Not one. If it has happened please post so we can know. I think the jobs available do not meet the jobs being removed. To give numbers implying otherwise is just PR.

I think there is a hiring "block" on us and I don't know why. I am highly qualified and a top performer on my team. I hold a ton of nursing certifications and am working on another as I post. I applied to 15 internal openings since the beginning of last week, to be rejected by 12. I immediately got feedback for most, and for the others, I got my rejection letter about a day later. I am working with an internal recruiter who seems to be very nice, but I wonder too, if this whole set up is just a façade to make sure that we stay in line until they officially release us. Too all the roles with which I applied, I have ALL the essentials and ALL the desirables in ALL but one role, which I didn't think I would get, just wanted to try, because I met all the other criteria. Even the roles which I have done in the past I got rejected for. I emailed Right Management last week, and they still have not gotten back to me to pursue outside employment. I am wondering if anyone affected in the layoffs will get moved around to fill an internal role. It seems like it would cost less to retain a current employee than recruit and onboard a new worker.

As for the internal postings, there are 487 last time I looked. There are 2 for Medical Directors, and several for leadership positions, one for a pharmacist and one for a pharmacy tech. While there are positions that need to be filled, the nurse positions are very few. There are some field positions open for home visits. Many of those in Florida require you to be bilingual and fluent in Spanish both written and spoken.

You must meet the role essentials. Kind of obvious really but you don;t HAVE to meet all of the desirable criteria. I have heard that these are checked over in an automated process.

"Most big companies use applicant tracking system (ATS) software to sift through online resume submissions. It's mainly used as an initial screening tool to analyze titles, dates and descriptions from resumes to evaluate a candidate's depth of experience (or rather, to see whether it's fit for human eyes)"

There is nothing new in this but there are tips on some websites about getting past these things.

The internal transfer hurdle isn't new. I've been trying to transfer internally for 2 years. I've never even got an initial interview. And I meet all of the role requirements for the positions I've applied to, some I haven't met the desirables but only a few. I'm highly qualified and a high performing associate but can't even get a recruiter to talk to me. I've been on the buzz group. I've reached out to hiring managers, recruiters, etc. I've done the career cultivation webexs...nothing.

It doesn't matter how quickly you would be able to assimilate into the position, if you don't have EVERY SINGLE requirement along with the desirables you will be passed over. They are making it extremely hard to stay within the company! Saying there are 1400 jobs or however many is just to save face to the public. They have zero intentions of keeping us in board.

If they cannot answer every single screening question with a hard yes, they are automatically denied.

Wondering if there is a hiring block? At least 5 members of my team have applied to dofferent positions with an automatic denial.
