Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Care planning changes

This 180 has got my head spinning! Completely change what we are expected to do for our members literally overnight. No warning, input or real information on it. Just bam! Go from giving members resources to empower themselves because they are the driver of their own health to literally do everything for them. Then when we are ALL telling them we are confused by all of it, it's essentially a brush off. Might as well told us we were retarded if we didn't just 100% grasp what they were saying. I'm literally reeling here still. I just can not wrap my head around how we can go a compeltly opposite direction with literally everything we do if thr blink of an eye. Change happens, I know. Change is good, I know. But this is too much, too fast and with no preparation.

When do they usually provide an update about open enrollment results. January?

“Last we were told (on my team) was that everything depends on open enrollment, however nobody has updated my team at all about how open enrollment went.”

I don’t understand why they create this anxiety for everyone, tell them that it all depends on open enrollment, then never update them about how open enrollment went. It seems cruel.

“My leader told us in our meeting mid October that things were looking great and there was plenty of work for us to do, plenty of projects, etc... then several of us were laid off 3 weeks later.”

Right. I’m sorry that happened to you, poster. Many on our team were told they were “safe” as well, only to receive the confidential email and learn otherwise.

Below poster, you might have missed the “I’m going to find something else after that January lump sum is deposited.”

My team has lost 4 PHC’s to resignation since the summer, and of course the layoffs have resulted in many more gone. Members are reassigned every other month. Associates are leaving, both voluntarily and involuntarily, at a rapid pace.

@QNO7xIj-2imi you can volunteer, just go.

You can't trust anything said by anyone at Humana. All lies. My leader told us in our meeting mid October that things were looking great and there was plenty of work for us to do, plenty of projects, etc... then several of us were laid off 3 weeks later.

QNO7xIj-1dyk - I’m a PHC and am in same boat as you. The way things are now, I would be fine if I were on the next layoff list. I’d volunteer if I could. It just gets worse and worse. I’m going to find something else after that January lump sum is deposited.

Reassurances vary from team to team. My leader is also trying to make us believe PHC role is safe now. It's nauseating.

Below poster, what reassurances did I miss? Last we were told (on my team) was that everything depends on open enrollment, however nobody has updated my team at all about how open enrollment went. So we were left hanging. Did you hear otherwise?

@QNO7xIj-1dzt... you read my mind. I am still employed as a PHC but was wishing yesterday that I had been laid off last time. I didn't want to sound insensitive to those who lost their jobs last round, but this work situation has gotten worse. Plus, leaders are back on the reassurance of PHC role again---even after saying no false reassurances in future.

Reading this makes me happy that I was laid off!! The stress level was bad before the last layoff and I cant imagine how bad it is now. Best of luck to everyone and try to have a nice holiday season

PHC here and have four meetings today. Four. This includes trainings. Somehow we are still supposed to get all these calls in. I'm noticing some of my colleagues who are usually the "we can do anything we set our minds to, team!" type, are uncharacteristically pissed off today. It is too much for anyone.

Way to boost morale this holiday season, leadership!

“Feels like a plan put in place by people that are having holiday parties in the office & thinking we are just sitting around doing nothing. HEY GENIUSES! We have to make all our contacts even if 50 people don’t answer the phones. So I have less time this week for your training, not more!”

This. If the logic was, “well people tend not to answer the phone this week, so let’s add trainings,” then it would follow, logically, that there would be a reduced metric expectation. However, they conveniently neglected to include that piece.

Instead you just pile it all on at once during an already stressful week while enjoying your holiday parties.

There is a lawsuit now related to unrealistic work demands leading to off the clock hours.

If PHC’s are asked to meet ten a day with the addition of care plans - a requirement that no other role must meet and that may not realistically allow for lunches, breaks and meeting productivity within assigned working hours - it would be wise to start documenting hours, productivity, pressure to meet demands, and any repercussions one faces for failing to meet demands. Just start documenting.

I think there needs to be serious consideration about a lawsuit here, 2017 was nothing short of a hostile work environment, only to lead to massive layoffs. Look out Humana, we are humans, you know HUMANa

Remember last year three days before Christmas we had a town hall meeting with MF and he talked about all the changes that were going to occur in 2017? I remember thinking then this is terrible three days before Christmas to tell us big changes are coming . That is never a good sign . These people are 💩. HCM RN here

I’m usually laid back. Pride myself on staying positive. Today, I will admit, I was nothing short of angry.

The week before Christmas, with no talk of reducing metrics, when we are already struggling to get contacts in, we are told to find an extra 2.5 hours for trainings for care plans.

Taking a PTO day for the holidays this week? Just double up on training time and still - get those contacts!

Why pile more stress on to a bunch of already stressed out PHC’s the week before Christmas? Feels like a “Christmas? bah humbug! Let’s see what we can squeeze out of you this week!” to all of us.

Let the mass exodus commence! This is just crazy and what a dump on the PHCs. I know quite a few that are finding other work or are leaving and soon. These constant changes and re-trainings are for the birds. HCM RN here.

We've been told for months that PHCs will have to start doing care plans. My issue is the timing of training. I am surprised that they felt the training schedule around pre-Thanksgiving was bad timing, so they postponed it to pre-Christmas which is even worse timing! Plus, most of us PHCs found about 200 more members on our rosters when we came back from Thanksgiving break after the last layoff, so it makes the time spent in training even more stressful trying to keep up with the extra member calls. I think they could have waited until January to start our care plan training to avoid this added pressure. The fact that they are not changing our productivity expectations up front is also very disturbing. Still shoot for 10 - 11 contacts per day AND have a quality call AND do the care plan properly. Happy New Year, PHCs.

Try to take a breath. They are going to need to lower metrics to make this work. Ten a day with time these consuming care plans is unrealistic.

Humana is already being sued by PHCs were pushed into working off the clock to meet demands. I don’t think they want another lawsuit.
