Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Would you recommend Humana to your friends?

Please answer frankly and in a civil way. What would you do? Would you recommend Humana to your friends? If yes (or no), why?

I would not.

It's unstable, at least in my group.

You never know if you'll have your job tomorrow.

I feel bad for those who have never felt welcomed on your new team. Coaches should never do that but from the posts, it is evident it does happen. When I went to a new team I did not have that issue but our coach is a professional. Our coach has been a gem compared to others from what we are hearing. I cannot recommend Humana at all right now as an employer or an insurer. Sad it has come to this.

No. Ever since I was reteamed, I cant do anything right. I have the same strong work ethic I had on my old team, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. These last few months have been awful.

I am not an anxious person by nature, but I am overwhelmed, isolated and fighting work related anxiety now.

For employment- not even to an enemy. I can only relate personal experience and for me, it was the worst employment experience of 25 years professional employment.

User @txj is so correct when she/he says this:

But, sadly, over the past year, the integrity of the program itself has been lost through numbers, specialized programs, surveys, layoffs, lack of acknowledgement, overwork, lack of cohesion amongst departments due to ridiculous new programs rolling out every other day.

  • For Insurance = Yes (we are better than many other companies, not ideal, but better).

  • For Work = No (too unstable as of now, 2018 will be even worse, once stabilized things may change)

I wouldn’t recommend Humana or insurance or place to work. Most of the providers listed in the booklets are retired, no longer accepting Humana or only accepting specific plans. Some providers are more than 50 miles away from members homes. Benefits are slim and being cut. How can we expect to decrease ER visits when our members are unable to find providers to get proper care. As for working at Humana this department is a joke. Please stop expecting people to meet metrics of a 8 hour day when there are constantly trainings and meetings and let’s not forget system down times. Roster sizes are constantly decreasing which obviously means less people to contact. Once again why are we expected to meet outdated goals with updated processes and procedures and smaller rosters. Quality standards changes from day to day and depends on reviewer. Someone mentioned action plans and write ups??!!! Why can’t people just come here and do the job they want without me harassed or being in fear of losing their jobs. This is a difficult time for everyone you would think until we have a solid process in place everyone would be more understanding

To the poster “ I am blessed”.... your reply was well-written and right on target....Especially about the physicians that won’t accept Humana anymore..... their reimbursement practices are appalling ... and frankly it’s been embarrassing to continue to have to defend Humana to these members ....No, I’d have to say I would not recommend Humana ....I wouldn’t have, even before this whole debacle

“It is a shame that Humana has managed to employ the absolute cream of the crop in employees, yet beats them down so hard that either their health suffers, their families suffer, or they are disposed of like yesterday's garbage.”

This. Even prisoners get an hour of sunshine / exercise a day, but with metrics demand and negative reinforcement, associates are neglecting themselves to keep their jobs (and it’s not working).

I have been blessed to have the most wonderful, amazing bosses ever! I work with the most amazing people ever. In fact, throughout the whole organization and my 5 years of employment with Humana at Home, I have only really had 3 people throughout the entire organization who were not my favorites. I have watched my management and coworkers do amazing things with dedication and loyalty and genuine caring. It has been an awesome place to work for.

But, sadly, over the past year, the integrity of the program itself has been lost through numbers, specialized programs, surveys, layoffs, lack of acknowledgement, overwork, lack of cohesion amongst departments due to ridiculous new programs rolling out every other day. The pharmacy should be called to answer for their carelessness in not providing the necessary medications in a timely manner or continuing to send discontinued medications to already confused members. Also, my members have all caught on to the fact that it is better buying your meds at Walgreen's and CVS because they will only pay 1/3 rd of the price being charged at Humana Pharmacy. Medical equipment is not approved and delivered in a timely manner. Members complain of being stalked and harrassed by incessant phone calls and mail from Humana and they can get a better deal with another insurance agency. Very few physicians in our area even take Humana and those practices are so overfull that oftentimes, members cannot get post hospital visits for a month. And, those practices turn over phsyicians every month. There is no continuuity of care. Therefore the members are leaving further jeapardizing our jobs.

Humana has no problems with their professional staff working 50 hours or more every week and, despite this will reprimand their employees for not meeting metrics. This is dishonest and stealing from the employees. There is a reasonable expectation that an employee is hired for 40 hours and it is OK with most to work some extra from time to time. But, that is not how it works and, if Humana allows this to happen, they are dishonest and stealing from their employees.

It is a shame that Humana has managed to employ the absolute cream of the crop in employees, yet beats them down so hard that either their health suffers, their families suffer, or they are disposed of like yesterday's garbage. I am sure there are a lot of reasons this happened to Humana... but it has turned into a chaotic mess. Sadly, I cannot recommend Humana to my friends because it used to be a badge that I wore with pride to be a Humana employee and now, well, things are different. May I please be dismissed now?

Paranoid much? Sorry you have had such a negative experience that has left you bitter and paranoid. I have not had the micromanaging. My coach has been amazing. I would not recommend HAH due to the current state but would recommend the company as a whole. As for the person who commented on the insurance, I now have to switch to my husband's insurance which is much costlier and higher deductible. We will have to change doctors also. Every hospital in my city and every doctor I have chosen takes Humana.

Are you kidding me? Only a company person trying to dig for reaction would ask such a question. NEVER! HAH is the worst micro managed vicious uncaring atmosphere ever worked in. Tell MF who ran this division into the ground after he did same to Right Source pharmacy that we all said Hi and waiting for him to get his karma. Peace out.

Humana insurance is terrible and they do not have many doctors or hospitals to those from. I would not recommend as an employer or for insurance.

I would not recommend HAH to my worst enemy! Vicious environment! Now round 5 of layoffs in a year while the leaders lie laugh and take the money and run. Disgusting!

Not HAH. Not unless they were someone who likes being micromanaged.

Humana is big and every department is a different story. Sometimes, even within the same dpt, experiences can differ. For me, Humana was great 30% of time, OK about 50% time and horrendous about 20% of time - things change and you need to reevaluate your position every 6 months.

Right now, despite the carnage, I'd say I would say yes. I know that many people had bad experiences recently, I would not be surprised if many were to say 'no'. At the same time, I am going through a good phase so it's a cautious yes.

I honestly would despite the massive layoffs within Humana at Home. I just would not recommend HAH. I have friends in other parts of the company who have been happily employed for well over 10 years. The pay is good, benefits decent and PTO is nice. I have been treated well and with respect, despite what others may say about their treatment. I have had good leaders. I am not bitter about the layoffs because I realize its the nature of this kind of work.
