Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Somebody please buy us, ANYBODY!

Ever since Mattel took over, our once proud company, brand, culture has been on the decline to the point that I've felt that all hope was lost. But now there is a new hope that we may be liberated by a new master. Oh white knight, please, buy us, break us up, break these chains, we will serve you! Imagine a giant reset button being pressed and our cruel overlords vanishing! Do we not all share this same dream, every minute, every second, of every day?

I think it's pretty obvious OP is a HIT Entertainment employee.

A takeover is unlikely. Media content is the name of the game and media conglomerates are aggressively looking to acquire content. As the over-the-top streaming video and app wars escalate, competitors like Hasbro and others will likely look to widen their content pipeline. Mattel doesn’t have that valuable of a content pipeline.

The good news is that traditional toys like Mattel products have new competition, but the play business isn’t going anyway anytime soon. Question is whether Mattel can sustain in one piece.

To the poster who guessed Fuhu. LOL. There was literally an Inc. Magazine article about how the toxic culture at Fuhu led it into bankruptcy. RF once publicly berated an employee for getting pregnant without getting his approval first. It happened right before the acquisition so Mattel swept it under the rug and made him an SVP! MattHell culture does not care about #metoo.

MattHell is malignant to the core with stage 4 cancer which spread to each and every company it acquired. FP was left alone for many, many years when Mattel was still doing fine and it continued to prosper but eventually the disease spread. Ditto with Tyco, AG, Radica, & Mega. Same old story with the same sad outcome.

This upper mismanagement is solely to blame from the old & new CEO, to RD and all his sycophant disciples.

You can’t truly achieve transformation when you are a public company. When you have a board and investors that expect returns (rightly so) on their investments on a regular basis. Mattel’s problem didn’t happen over night. It’s going to take a good deal of time to fix it. Do we all think this is achievable in a public company? True hope would be for Mattel to be taken private. It would allow some time for real world strategies to be put in place that restores dignity to your employees and have real conversations about the brands. It would give Mattel breathing room and (corporate speak) align priorities.

But who am I kidding, that kind of move takes google type money.

sadly this is going to go the route of leapfrog. a company will buy you out and folks with stock in mattel will get pennies on the dollar. As a shareholder I would personally like to thank Mattel leadership and it’s uninspired lackeys of employees for absolutely nothing. good luck on the unemployment line.

Clearly the OP works for Sproutling.

No matter which division the OP was from, the fact remains that Mattel WILL be bought by a group that will sell off the brands one by one - which would make them the largest profit margin. What excites me about that is watching the current Management Team start running like rats on a sinking ship, looking to distance themselves from the mess they've managed.

I think it's pretty obvious that when the OP says "once proud company, brand, culture" they are referring to Radica, which indeed a shell of it's former self thanks to Mattel's acquisition.

Well things have to get really bad for something desperate to happen.

It’s not rock bottom yet until you start selling your brands.

Talking about sku optimization is hullabaloo if it takes you 18 months to affect it.

My guess is OP is probably a Fuhu employee. Either that or AG.

It's too late. There's no one left to re-create the wonderful culture that was. Mattel made sure of that. The brand is dead too. Cheapened and no longer respected. Yes, maybe a white knight will come and break it up but once that reset button is pushed the new culture will be theirs. Sad. It's all history now.
