Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Why do some people dislike that nurses are paid well?

Why do some people dislike that nurses are paid well? We worked very hard in school, and all of us had to several years of direct patient care before HUMANA would look at us. We DO have a right to be worried about losing our jobs, just the same as anyone else. My goodness, let’s support each other!

Sorry, below should say “stand alone.”

“Stand also be” makes no sense, autocorrect!

Yeah, I hear you OP - someone reposted one of my older responses as a new thread and it wasn’t even relevant to what’s going on now. It was a response to an old conversation. Didn’t make sense as a stand-also be thread, and the timing made no sense either.

Ok, so I am the HCM that wrote the original post. The problem is this, it was written in response to a discussion on a different thread. It was NOT written as an original post. Someone copied it and started this thread I’m assuming to cause a bashing, which has happened. That really makes me sad. I’m sorry that my post to another discussion entirely was used to cause hard feelings. I won’t be posting again and will be staying off this site. Obviously there are so me real troublemakers here.

As an HCM who agrees that we have every right to be concerned for our jobs, I feel as though this is not the time to make such a statement, and certainly doesn't make us any more likeable to anyone who has a problem with us. The only focus for many on this page is if we will have jobs in the new year. This post just further divides us in our roles, when we all need to be supporting one another more than ever.

Not so easy to move into a role you don't have recent direct experience with these days, licensed or not. Since Humana has been making cutbacks corporate wide another job within this company offers no protection from cut back. As far as what nurses make, everyone has the ability to go back to school for a degree. Many scholarships and grants out there. Its a personal choice each person makes. Everyone is worried for their job no matter their income or education level. It's a very competitive world out there for employment opportunities overall. Difficult for nurses who have been away from the bedside to obtain employment away from this setting. What once seemed like a good move is proving now to be hurtful for future gainful employment. So nurses are not any better off than someone else.

I agree wholeheartedly OP. Doesn't matter though, because there are going to be the angry bitter people who hate us for even existing. I see you're already being bashed for daring to say anything. Not surprised by that at all.

50k? That’s not what I make. Maybe I should go ask for a raise, see how that goes!

I’m a PHC and I appreciate the nurses. I’m not into this us vs. them nonsense.

Get off your high sanctimonious horse. It's a different story now that the nurses are in the line of fire. No one cares what you make! It has been the attitude of the nurses who have posted on this site that has infuriated everyone. Some of you feel you should be treated like Gods. Not saying the poster does. There are plenty of PHCs with more education and longer work histories than some nurses. We have put in our dues. It is much harder for us to find a job to replace our $50k salaries than the nurses. Within a month you will all be working again. I have friends from the first layoff with masters degrees who are still unemployed. You could easily transition into a UM or PN position within Humana and still have your cushy WAH job. There are zero Humana jobs for the PHCs. So when you complain, oh woe is me, yes, it's annoying!

You're absolutely right, but there will always be people who dislike it no matter what you do.
