Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Wirth to dismantle Kirkland's wasteful legacy

He has no vested interest in all the non-value-adding bureaucracy and processes that George Kirkland created. Watch for quick action to reduce/eliminate PRC, Upstream Capability and ETC.

There was a lot of empire building in the GOD (Good Old Days)

Unfortunately lot of them have survived the downturn.

Kirkland understood oil business risk which involves establishing efficient access, successful exploration, discovery, development and long term operations/maintenance. He set up organizations to help Chevron accomplish this. The folks that set up these organizations did not execute Kirkland's vision effectively. Pence will be helpful here. Upstream success is required for an oil and gas company

It's obvious that You're the one who needs to be swept under the rug, pal, and let the real men finish the job that you couldn't.

I sat in a few meetings with GK and thought he was a very shrewd and intelligent. Asked lots of penetrating questions and knew when the anwers were wrong. Somehow, i dont think the current trainwreck is his legacy.

Wirth will be operating a company in low, flat or declining prices while GK was in a high and rising prices. Different strategies for different times. The GK legacy will be large production increases from LNG and we are seeing them now with the stock price popping up. Remember when times are good upstream earns about five times per barrel more than what downstream earns in the best downstream years. Upstream will always be the tail that wags the dog at Chevron.

eulv - Chevron needs to show positive results as positive sentiments are just hot air.

Kirkland's original vision was efficient / industry leading upstream capability (for all employees), industry leading project design/construction/operations and industry leading upstream and downstream technology. He provided a green light for the corporation to put these organizations in place. Execution of this vision may have been flawed but in my opinion don't blame Kirkland...a very negative sentiment...we need positive sentiments to help build Chevron to be the industry leader....

6zbe, Don't need a job and don't want one. Took the package. Maybe you should keep on staying on top of the local fast-food positions open, as you obviously need one trolling this board with no prospects.

W can only hope that Wirth will aggressively trim these bloated organizations. Hope CVX will get back to being able to execute a capital project on schedule and budget.

No satire. CPDEP is used well enough at Chevron, but when things start to drag on and the big shot execs are chomping at the bit, just one word is all that’s needed and all of a sudden it’s fast tracked from phase 3 to 5 faster than Kirkland was able to rip a fart after breakfast.

I retired years ago but watched cpdep totally violated with Kirkland taking the lead. They accepted projects not reading to get full funding move forward, thus we has Wheatstone, gorgon, etc. This lead to our poor financial results.

The company is too politically correct to be lean and mean. If you get mean and bring your job in on budget and schedule you will be dinged on your pmp for poor communication with prc execution or other stakeholders. Next thing you know your no longer in the club and out the door. Chevron is one big ship of fools.

SF is also suing big oil for potential property damage due to climate change.

One thing I’ve not understood is that from San Ramon they are within reach of Silicon Valley - yet they don’t seem to take advantage of the innovative culture. Even baby steps (drones for inspection etc) they could have looked here. Closest I have heard is solar panels at Richmond refinery.

CA is proposing to ban all internal combustio vehicles by 2040. Time to move out of San Ramon.

Just how many non-core employees are there relative to core employees - those who actually do the exploration analysis for geology, geophysics, petrophysics, petroleum engineering, seismic data processing and others? Too many exploration people have been laid off and too much non-core company fat has been spared. How many meetings does it take to make a decision? How many spreadsheets? How many power point displays? How many diversity awareness events does it take to improve/increase exploration success rates, oil/gas production, refinery output, reduce project costs, increase corporate net profits? You all get the big picture and know what I mean.
