Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

PTCs are essential to Sam's Club

It's just sad that the "higher ups" don't remember where they came from. Take pride in your job? For what? To be used and discarded? AES? What a joke. I am a PTC that has taken my job seriously and have done it with extreme pride. I have spent my time being PTC, talking to associates who have had ups and downs with Sams, talking about core values and respect for the individual during orientation getting new associates excited to be a part of a wonderful company (joke).....encouraging other associates when they felt slighted or not a valued associate. It's much more than pushing papers, wayyyyy more! It's being the liaison between salaried and hourly. Being the reminding voice of policies to Management when they want to make hot headed decisions without taking into affect there are policies that protect the hourly associates. I have also seen management preach about policies but in the same breath, feel free to change them or make the rules up to suit them. It's such a joke. Without us, good luck! I personally know many PTC's in two different markets who are extraordinarily kind and until recently of the impending news, excited to go to work and took pride in their positions. The feeling Of working for a company that felt like a solid piece of the American dream and simply has dissapeared. Sam Walton, your values and beliefs have been replaced with robotic, uncaring, greed driven humans (humans? Ha!) The very idea that you want to use all of us hard working hourly associates to raise money for children in need and natural disasters is preposterous! What a smoke screen to hide behind charitable work while you plan our demise. I'm so disgusted that I am part of such a heartless company. Boy were we fooled.

Agree completely with @PqM4AFQ-ger. Bumped for being on point.

First from Post ID: @PsvcdCb If working for Sams is what you consider The American Dream then I feel very sorry for you. We work for a very greedy company and there only concerns is the share holders. I learned many years ago that any position or person is replaceable. At one time I have been and helped many other clubs when I was asked because I thought I mattered but then I realized I did not so I no longer am willing to go help any club. Never understood how a company actually thinks a lazy worker. always late.misses a couple days or more a month, is constantly on there phone .takes no pride in there work, no sense of urgency, is just as valuable as your core employees the last couple of years proves just that with the way they give out raises. Everyone received a 2% increase regardless of performance evaluation. Every job that is rumored to be cut is valuable none no more important than the other and they will continue each year adding new things and will continue cutting jobs to support the new things they add because if they do not do that then they have to increase the payroll budget and thats not going to happen. As the push for scan and go continues and more self checkouts are installed more and more cashiers have been and will continue to be eliminated. Many times I have heard older members say they will not use self checkouts because they are taking peoples jobs and that's exactly 100% correct, The Walmart by me now has more self checkouts than actual registers which im glad because it really made no sense to have 30 checkouts and only 4 or 5 open at all times. The difference between Sams and Walmart at one time yiu could go into any Walmart and look at the employees face and see how much they hated there job and being there and go into a Sams and see the employees there smiling and it was like a small family but today when you go into a Sams what few people are actually working and GIVING THAT LEGENDARY MEMBER SERVICE (what a joke) have that same look those Walmat employees have. The company I started at over 25 years ago no longer exist and if its not this year it will be my job eventually but my job is one of the rumored to be one of the jobs cut this year. The company is not going to change because it dont have to. Sales is what determines what the company does and thats all its about. Good sales equal happy Shareholders and thats the bottom line. Were all part of the problem because most of us will continue shopping at WAlmart and Sams even when we get fired or as they call it layed off . If every person that ever was LAYED OFF or fired stopped shopping at there local Sam or Walmart sales would take a major hit but we wont stop shopping there. Good luck to all and if you tbink your job is so much more important and wont be replaced then cudos to you. Who remembers the Saturday morning when all of our Demo department had there meeting and was told there jobs were being eliminated and look at what they brought in to replace them. I do believe this is when it all started and has continued every year now

Gisele and John are just scrambling to cut pay and expect more profit. Doing so they are cutting positions that had or have the most invested people in the clubs. Audit teams, cash office, receiving lead & clerk, and PTC?? These are people that in large majority took pride in their job and the company for years. They were your training go to when new associates and even more importantly managers come in to the club. The MIT program is a joke that doesn’t prepare you for anything. Everything I learned came from 10+ year associates in these positions.

Saving a few bucks off the bottom line won’t mean much when the end result is clubs that are poorly ran with associates who don’t feel safe in any job. The more who take severance and leave the less knowledge remains in the clubs.

New technology exists but none of it can replace the #1 asset...people.

As a former PTC, I can't comprehend this move. Do clubs have PTCs that "spread gossip...sit around...never help on the floor"? Sure, but that can happen at any position or club.

If they do eliminate PTC, I'll tell you that ethics hotline/market level calls will increase and AES will decrease. Not sure how they plan to handle future orientations...what, increase CBL days from average or 2-3 to 5? Where 90% of information is lost to associate being on phone, info overload, not caring ect? Because in high turnover clubs I promise asst mgrs aren't gonna have the time to do full orientations. IN ADDITION to taking care of other PTC functions as described above: GTA, ETA, exceptions, LOA, random questions (this will stress mgrs out the most) attendance (please pretend that they aren't gonna ignore C/O's or tardies for 'good' associates and target bad ones..or even do it in the first place) Good luck with file audits and any lawsuits/subpoenas arising from the fact that a terminated associate can request their personnel file

Just..wow if they do this. FAM already has turned into a high stress position with the restructure, but now add in they would have to be fully responsible for staffing their area AND keep up with the new specs and expectations of that position? Good luck getting FAMS to stay/not get termed for "failure to achieve goals"

Our PTC should work for TMZ. She does good at getting the gossip and spreading dat sh1t all over the club. When she ain't doin that she is sittin around listening or watching Howard Sterns while the rest of us on the floor bust are a$$. Must be nice to come in work bank hours listen to your stations and never help us on floor. #joke

Management and leads and associates all get drunk together to. Some women take all day in the associate bathroom and I can't get in and had to use the men's room. Like wtf u doing in there playing with yourself?

I am the receiving lead and my job is essential too. All jobs are essential!! You can't run a business without receiving the freight, ptc for hiring abd everything else, jewelry associate to help members know what they are buying, membership to help are business grow ,cashier's to ring out members and so on. NOT ONE JOB IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN THEY OTHER. But someone believes they don't need us.

Not sure about other PTCs but I do orientation help sign up and explain benefits. Trouble shoot tech in the facility . Input PTO. Open reqs, submit job requests approve job requests conduct job offers. Complete unemployment claims, complete OSHA reporting monthly with finalization at the end of the year. Either submit or help submit LOAs while mailing end of leave letters or denial letters, mailing transfer files, plus more that's a usual for PTCS MY concern yes is being out a job however it's also my associates I feel they will not get the help or will get lost in management directing them to the WIRE where I already know associates do not know how to navigate.

i’m pretty sure sam’s or walmart doesn’t need a cheerleader or pay someone to listen to “ups and downs”. go to your clergy, counselor best friend or whatever. everyone has problems it’s not a ptc that needs to be involved or offer advice.

The nation and world are changing, and by the sounds of it, you're WAY behind the curve. The changes that are taking place will create an environment where I can tell you with absolute certainty that there will be no value or use for a position such as the one you describe.

If you have a job at all that is...
