Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

Why does Juniper refuse to call JOB CUTS with its true name: "LAYOFFS"

I am really puzzled - they are talking about small cuts - just look around and tell me - are we really cutting sporadically and very light? You are right, we are not - the cuts are deep and they should be called by its true name: LAYOFFS.

No matter how much corporate BS and spin they apply, it's still a layoff.

I left Juniper in 2016 after 10+ years with the company. The culture has soured since the end of the KJ era. Key elements of the Juniper Way have been re-purposed as after-the-fact justifications for poor decision making (We Are Authentic. Anyone???). That said, i disagree with some of the posts here. I don't believe all of the blame falls on senior leadership. From what i saw, middle managers were equally prone to making selective conclusions, valuing activity over results, and transforming opinion into fact through the miracle of PowerPoint. Then again, one could make the argument, "Who chose the Middle Managers?" Regardless, my point is there's plenty of blame to go around.

When i resigned, my manager pulled me aside and tried to explain how leaving the company would prove to be the biggest mistake of my life. So far, i don't think it has been, but i guess I'll have to wait and see. The only constant is change.

That's good for the folks who are leaving. Juniper is not a sinking ship, its a ship that's already sunk. Get on a lifeboat while you can still get a place on one and row away. Leave the management and the bunch of politically motivated worthless people promoted earlier in the year in a plug-the-holes reaction to switch off the lights.

the worse part is a lots of people in fear of getting laid off started looking for new job months ago, some of them who got laid off and have new job are the happiest , others who survived are getting job offers and leaving slowly one by one.

That's the "Juniper Way" with "Juniper values": open communication, no retaliation for reporting unethical behaviour and/or supected bullying by one's manager, honesty etc. Evrything applies to everyone except for people who have managed to s----up and get into the moribund, parasitic management culture. That's where all of the above does not apply. Amount videos, trainings and surveys I have done from legal and ethics, I thought, "Wow, here it comes, a house cleaning sweep". But nothing! All the scavengers and parasites are still around and decent Management personnel are being booted out. This is true Juniper way.
