The way it was done? Give me a break. Tell me a tale where a layoff for any publicly traded company was done in some overtly humane way? Just read some postings of the most active companies on this website (listed at top of home page) and you will understand. All layoffs stink, but all layoffs are done pretty much the same way.
You've actually got it backwards. You shouldn't be asking yourselves how the layoffs were (or will continue to be) done, but instead be asking why layoffs in the first place? How did F5 get into this position where this was necessary? Was it not the right product/feature mix, the quality of the products, the service and support, lack of ability to innovate quickly, or all of the above? Will the new strategy correct F5's weaknesses or only expose them more? Instead of crying about how badly HR treated those laid off, start thinking about how to change F5 so this doesn't happen to more people.
