Thread regarding F5 Networks Inc. layoffs

Feeling of betrayal

As one of the hit, my package was 6 months and continuing benefits for a month. But I don't know what it's like for others (they said it was based on time in company and the like)

I agree with the above poster that, given the current market, I'm not horribly concerned. It's more of a feeling of betrayal (they reiterated a bunch of times that it wasn't a performance issue) than one of fear.

I'm the OP, and can assure you that in my case, 6 months wasn't a lie (nice to know you call people you don't know liars -- classy), though I'd been there for more than 10 years.

6 month's of severance package is a total lie. Some people stayed there for around 5 years and got just 3 months.

For anyone's career, you should ALWAYS be looking. When you're the next one to be laid off, if you already have a game plan on where to go next the surprise and shock of being laid off won't even register. Have loyalty to yourself, your career, not to a big corporation that ultimately makes decisions on their future and not yours.

I wont be surprised if there will be a spike in "bad turnover" (essential staff F5 wants to keep) given this small layoff will leave people feeling uneasy ("Am I next?") and there's still a great job market. I know I'll start looking.
