UK Compulsory Reddundancy - anyone affected?

Mail came out last Friday in UK telling a number of staff they were not "provisionally at risk" of redundancy this time, but said other people in UK would be. This was especially frustrating as a number of staff receiving these had unsuccessfully applied for Voluntary Redundnacy and been turned down the week before.

Did anyone get a mail saying they were at risk of redundnacy ?

It's really funny how "truly redundant" now means the exact opposite of the original meaning of the word "redundant"!

I am ex HPE and didn't get the CR one but did get the Pension one. I stand to lose £10,000 a year on my pension so would welcome CR at the moment on Uk terms and conditions.

Following on from my last comment (you can't edit on here) You need to understand the difference between a truly redundant role and ideological cost saving lunacy.

Truly redundant is something like you are a coal miner and your employer no longer digs coal.

Cost saving is that you are an accountant for the same company and they imagine that having 20 accountants is too many, so decide that if 10 choose to leave nothing will be impacted, only the wage bill.

Of course both have to be legally dressed up as role redundancy, even if the latter probably legally is nothing of the sort.

So if you actually had a role which was truly redundant then your VR would be turned down because they wanted rid of you anyway and paying a 2k VR uplift was just money they didn't need to spend...

People in that category were never going to get saved by others elsewhere in the business offering to take their place.

Really, if they were being honest, they'd tell unfortunate people that news up front, but honesty and decency are attributes Mikey removed from this company many years ago.

I'm ex HPE and not had one either but did get one on Friday about Pension Consultation so CR at this point would probably be a good thing for me.

I've not had an email mentioning redundancies for a very long time although I do know of a number of people who have been CRd or given the opportunity for VR and taken it over the last 12 months or more. I thought they were trying to keep these things quiet for some reason unless you are 'impacted'...
