Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Just got my Flip Phone

Just activated my Flip phone and turned in my iPhone. Welcome to 2001. I feel very professional carrying around a snazzy LG Flip Phone. I make calls and text. Can't check email or calendars.

IMHO, anyone who spends significant time away from their desk needs a smart phone in order to receive emails without finding the nearest Starbucks, McDonalds, etc. and logging in.

This is a perfect example of big Honeywell problems, and I hope this site is monitored! Maybe it doesn't relate directly to layoffs, but I'm sure that the same sort of process occurs there. First, H continually suboptimizes - in this case, the cost saving by switching to flip phones isn't even a rounding error in the grand scheme of things, but is probably a noticeable part of some low level metric such as annual spend for phone service. So a decision is made to cut that expense. Since the manager/director/etc has no idea who really needs a smart phone and it's too much trouble to find out who has one and most difficult of all, if it's necessary, an easy way out is make the decision by hierarchy - only Band 4 and above can get and keep them.

Next, the leadership chain of those affected either can't, or worse yet from a company culture point of view, won't try to get the decision changed even though the negative, but hard to measure, impact of the decision far outweighs the measurable, positive metric that drove it.

Similar thinking when it comes to layoffs, lost revenue and profitability from most of them is not measurable in the short rum (short as in quarters or even years) and will be blamed on other issues in long run (say 5 years) whereas the cost benefit is immediate.

Here's an idea, Just put the flip phone in your front pocket, at least the girls ( or maybe guys, wouldn't not want to be un-PC) will think you are packing something big, rather the needle D'ck you seem to have.

Yes, I DO need a smart phone to be efficient. For crying out lout I work in Supplier Quality in the Field all day ! We don't sit at a desk all day. Give me a break. It is 2017. Quit being so cheap. What an embarrassment to carry this into a supplier. Why the Hell does a band 4 sitting at a Honeywell plant all day need a smart phone. They did this based on band, not on NEED.

Just another stupid decision made by honeyhell. Power of connected? Ha ha ha ha ha ha...flip phones are for old farts who don't know how to use technology. I'm surprised they didn't go for the jitter bug...stay tuned. They might.

-4ufp, seriously, you're being a bigger whiner than anyone complaining about the phones. Get over it!

where in the original post did hit reference "The Power of Connected"? ... no where.

Even if the OP did reference the slogan, where does it state in the slogan, that our employees each have a smart phone? .... no where.

Now we have someone that is embarrassed to have a flip phone, well ok I get it. but why do they need a smart phone? Each employee has access to the technology they need to do their job, a computer (possibly a laptop) with VPN and Skype and if needed a phone, maybe even a smart phone.

But Honestly how many jobs requires a smart phone, maybe if you are in Marketing, product support or in leadership you would have a valid reason.

Is this a chintzy way to save money? not really every so many months or years Honeywell should be looking at these expenses and cutting where it makes sense.

To be clear I agree "The Power of Connected" is a hollow slogan with nothing to back it up, and I'm sorry you feel that having a flip-phone is embarrassing. But with so many other problems employees are facing I really do not see this as rating very high.

-2zsb, it's the irony to our 'new' slogan. A little over your head, maybe?

Our flip phones aren't even text enabled. Just can make calls and take crappy pictures with it.

@2ZSB no, it's just the latest laughable cost cutting measure taken by morons who couldn't manage a restroom, much less a large complicated aerospace business. The irony of getting flip phones is that this company is touting itself to being on the cutting edge of everything from technology to products and more recently, changed its schtick to the power of connected. Yes connected to a phone designed in 1997. Impressive. Most impressive.

Really after everything that has been cut from employees, being ranked last on on supplier quality ratings ... Etc. you are now finally embarrassed to be associated with Honeywell, because of the flip phone they gave you??? did you even care about customer only that you had a cool phone?

Well, at least we know you have breaking point.

Yes. Feel very good about it. Make sure you tell anyone who asks that yes, you work for a huge multinational company which touts itself as a technology giant, can't afford 4 year old iphones.
