Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

Avaya's situation is far from unique

Its just as bad if not worse elsewhere. Tech as an employer is day by day becoming a risky place for a prolonged career. Just take a look at Cisco's layoff mesaage board. They have some of the same problems as we have (amplified though given the size). Laying off people every now and then is not a good sign.

The only good thing I see in Avaya right now are a few people (way down in the food chain) who are out there busting their asses.

All that being said, I just hope the people up top change after the exit. (which seems very likely, expect some good news on that front in the coming few days). Its not about the greed on show by them, but my main grouse is that they have let a culture of mediocrity thrive in Avaya. People who really want to work and make a difference and trying to change the system do not have any support from anywhere.

I just hope there is a new exec leadership team, one which rewards merit and talks common sense.

Why is Mitel buying Shoretel good, one less competitor?

Certanly not 'work as usual' for a while now. People down the chain are finding it hard to meet customers' demand as 3rd parties decommit due to payment issues. We are on the high-risk band. Many atimes we are caught off guard and our planning fails. Our hands are tied. Sales continue to decline with most days we are left keeping ourselves busy doing nothing. People are just waiting for next opportunity to jump ship. Many have and will continue to do so. May those who are patiently waiting for severance package or a turnaround, get what they deserve. It is hard seeing hard-working, long-service staffs let go one by one.
