Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

It is not worth it

I worked for Humana as a HCM-RN for 6 months in SNP, which requires 5 successful contacts per day. It was the longest 6 months of my life. The job I was doing was NOT the job description provided to me at my interview. I didn't go to school for four years to be a telemarketer. I think it's easy to get wrapped up in the culture of Humana and think you have it "good" because you WAH. I had myself believing that for awhile. But I got tired of the ridiculing, patronizing, and overall breakdown of my spirit and told Humana to piss off. For the most part, my coach tried to be a decent human being, but I always sensed he was simply another Humana minion doing what he was told and too scared to advocate for us HCMs. To all of you smart, capable, strong, educated nurses out there: the measure of your worth as a human and abilities as a nurse are NOT measured by the number of "successful" contacts you can make in a day. The same applies to HCM-SS, PHC, and everyone else stuck to their desk, skipping lunches, skipping breaks, and working long (unpaid) hours. It doesn't have to be like that. There are employers who will value you, treat you with respect, and compensate your efforts appropriately. Hang in there. xxx

I left a few months ago and started at a managed care company. I'm much happier. I love my job!! Some days I want to stay a little longer, because the environment is wonderful. RN here that values being treated as a professional and not a child. Humana is a slave ship. They don't value employees or members.

I started with A_ company a few weeks ago and am so happy. It's not rainbows and unicorns, it's still WORK, but compared to the mismanagement and constant harassment at humana, i feel like a professional again. The 1.5 years I spent at Humana were the worst of my entire career. At least there are processes and procedures that are IN WRITING and not changing day to day and communicated by word of mouth.

I wish anyone could say what companies are offering these better positions? I'm also an hcm rn but wonder if any other corporate type company will be same? My friends at Aetna or Cigna say same complaints. Metrics. Micromanaging. Etc. I do like a lot about this job and am lucky to have a good coach but yes like OP said... feeling chained to the desk because of numbers.

"ridiculing, patronizing, and overall breakdown of my spirit"

I could not have said it better myself! It is horrible how they keep on comparing stats and how they put you down if you don't make your "5"

For those of you who are not familiar with the SNP program, to get to 5 you can call more than 20 members and the process might take 9 hrs + of your day! It is unheard of!

The moment you start figuring things a bit, they throw a whole bunch of changes, nonsense and more requirements. It never stops! Get it together Humana!
