Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Management Style

I asked my grossly incompetent asinine mgr if he really thinks I'm incompetent why does he not fire me? His asinine response was....why don't you quit? Unfortunately, these idiots can screw you over with impunity because they've been mandated to do so to someone of their choosing, and if you expose their incompetence.....guess what?

we peons don't need to turn on each other, we need to remember and help each other find a better job where we are appreciated for our skills and our knowledge and our dedication to this dying animal...screw the HOS, managers, and bean counters....we have worked together too long and too hard to let them take away our humanity and friendship. Don't i sound like a Disney flick??? But seriously, the company told us from the beginning of the year we are going to be a software giant....connected....

Try getting a resume coach and always be looking for other jobs. Easier to find one when still employed. Make friends and keep friends, they may get you another job someday. There are jobs out there, dont wait for something to go wrong abd get behind financial 8 ball.

That's what they depend on. Chances are you will find another job. Might take 3 months, 6 or a year but you will find something else at the end of the day. Life setback but not career suicide.

@3uvg. I feel for you......I really do. You're saddled with obligations and debt to the point where you're a slave to it all. I'm not criticizing you here, merely pointing out that many people are in the same boat as you are. If most of the employees at HON were in a position to tell HON to go get fcked, none of this would happen. They know they have many employees in a corner and so they leverage that position to the fullest extent.

It depends on your circumstances. I'm 33 years old and have eight years with Honeywell. I'm eligible for two or three severence payments if I get laid off, have two pre-school daughters in day care, a wife who's a teacher, (AZ wages) a mortgage, a car payment, etc. I don't have a pension available to me. I live in AZ and unemployment wouldn't even cover our child care costs.

I don't have savings to take all the free time in the world for a vacation. So yes, I consider it career suicide and being incredibly irresponsible to lose my job with my family obligations.

Far from career sucide. You get severance, unemployment and get to take your pension too. On top of that you get a sh--load of free time. Free time to take a vacation that the VPs only dream of. And on top of all that you get all the time in the world to look for a better job which in time you will sure find. That sounds like career suicide to you? Most people that get laid off end up in a better position overall.

From -1cdu.

Yes you are correct that there are instances where good people have no control over being let go and I've also seen that happen many times in my career. Yes, unfortunately sh*t happens and you have no control over that.

My point is that it is career suicide in a downsizing environment to be confrontational with your leader. That behaviour will immediatly move you to the top of the list for the next round of RIF's whether you are in a targeted group or not. You do have control over that.

What you say depends on what group you were fortunate or unfortunate to work in. Plenty of people work for good decent bosses then one day that boss is told to get a new job or leave. Point is good boss one day bad boss next day happens. Or the entire group you are in gets laid off. It happened. Plenty of people go from good situations to bad situations at no fault to them - hard workers, non-confrontational. Honeywell is in a downsizing environment, you must be fortunate to not be too affected at the moment. Real world means decent hard working people can get laid off. I worked in an area were entire management team was replaced. One of the new managers told me, I don't like guys with degrees. Sh*t happens.

Welcome to the real world in business. They don't give participation trophies and you have to actually be productive and proactive to advance. Being confrontational with your manager instead of asking how you can improve and following through with it is an incredibly bad career move.

Sorry but I agree with HXT because all you do is repost previous posts and that adds nothing to this site but it drives people away, hurting this site.
