Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Are you in the win-win waiting game?

Many of us want out, and they won’t let us go, even though there is little or no work now, and nothing on the horizon, and we certainly don’t fit in with the new direction in which the company is heading. And it does not make sense for us to leave on our own when we are basically being paid to do little or nothing, and it’s costing the company about 3 times our salary every day they keep us.

It’s the waiting game, where the employee wins every time, and with a high probability of winning again in the end, if they have patience. The company waits for employee to leave on their own, or die, to avoid paying out a minimal severance…..and the employee waits to see how long the company is willing to keep spending 3 times their salary, every day, to keep them to do little or nothing. There are several people who are in the game now, for anywhere from 2 to 7 years (several winners were awarded severance trophies in the last 3 RIFs, after as much as 7 years). So, to avoid paying out a one-time severance of about .5 times to an employee, the company would rather be paying 42.5 times that amount in total over 7 years, for example

I myself am a 5 year veteran of the waiting/winning game, with patience to spare. I can leave anytime, or wait for the severance trophy. Every day is a win for me!

So, patience my friends!

Re not having any thing to do at Phoenix Aero - perfect example of mindless metric management. I lived through that last year before I retired (on my terms, thank you very much!) and the work didn't go away. It just waited for us to be allowed to work it. We were not allowed to do it since that bucket was empty and the others were rapidly being tapped out. End result - expense metric met, but performance metrics not met unless staggering amounts of overtime were worked when money was available again. Stupid!

Lots of people at Aerospace in Phoenix with nothing to do. They closed charge numbers to make their numbers and lots of people sitting around charging indirect since it comes out of a different bucket. It depends what group you are with whether you are busy or not I guess. Maybe there is money again now with the start of a new quarter.

With the exception of the last three RIFs, in all other RIFs over the past 30 years they have cut people, with total disregard for departmental work-load, under-staffing, or OT, as they use to select a target number, or percentage, and instruct the managers to select the equivalent percentage from their dept. They first ask for volunteers, and if they didn't get enough, they then make the number up with involuntary. Most often, almost all volunteers gets accepted, regardless of workload or importance of the individual.

The picture is much different now, as the company's deteriorating attitude towards it's employees has opened the floodgate of volunteers, and resignations, forcing the company to be more selective. Unfortunately, that has resulted in the least productive/talented employees, mostly involuntary, getting rewarded with a severance package, and the most productive/talented ones punished with rejection, and increased work-load to boot, driving many to leave on their own.

Deer Valley Aero is understaffed (lots of good workers gone) and overworked . . . where in the heck are employees just hanging around with little or no work? Sounds depressing and boring.

Any particular site or group in particular lacking work? Many are overloaded due to departures, voluntary or otherwise.

wya; The person can't be worthless if you keep paying to keep him/her. In fact, that further places them in a win-win-win position, and you in a lose-lose-lose position! You can only be management to think like that.

Sounds like you're worthless and satisfied to be that way. There's no win in worthless.
